“Broward's nami takes on an advocacy and education agenda. In all cases, members of broward's nami are consumers, family members, professionals, and friends who come together to share and take comfort in the commonality of their experiences and to educate members of their communities about serious brain disorders. In addition to providing support, broward's nami also: - provides local information and referral services; - conducts community education by serving on county committees and boards; conducts classes on mental health to family members and peers; conducts family support groups and peer support groups; runs monthly speaker meetings with topics of interest to our members; runs a social three times a year to adults living with mental health issues; - interact with local professionals; - work with local media on stories about mental illness; - report on local issues and needs to their state organization; and - provides support and encouragement to people with brain disorders and promote their full participation as community members.”
