“Accomplishments of crl's land stewardship/education program every year we continue our long term forestry research of selective thinning. Staff for the forestry research stay on our facilities and are encouraged to incubate their own mission-aligned projects. Over the course of the year, the incubator program served over 100 participants. Some participants come for day long workshops, others for residential trainings for weeks at a tine. The program helps entrepreneurs achieve significant business accomplishments, such as helping individuals enter local markets, gain technical skills, and develop new products. Land stewardship and education events in 2024 including two fire workshops, three agroforestry events, a natural building event as well as open houses and several other educational events for the community. Americorps, conservation corps and school groups participated in 120, 20, and 15 days of programming, respectively. The organization also partnered with eight mission-aligned organizations in hosting events. We managed our 40 acres campus and continued our selective thinning forestry research. We produced several kiln loads of biochar as part of educational trainings, thinned understory grand fir as part of training program for conservation corps, and re-built small construction of out- buildings as a mentored learning experience. Fertilized the land by introducing silvopasture practices to the land-thus removing several acres of invasive species, managed an orchard and expanded access to medicinal and nourishing plants, and many other aspects of land stewardship. This work has been part of our educational programming. We've held open houses, weekend workshops, and a series called "future fundamentals" which emphasized various aspects of ecological practices.”

OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR, THE INCUBATOR PROGRAM SERVED OVER 100 PARTICIPANTS. SOME PARTICIPANTS COME FOR DAY LONG WORKSHOPS, OTHERS FOR RESIDENTIAL TRAININGS FOR WEEKS AT A TINE. THE PROGRAM HELPS ENTREPRENEURS ACHIEVE SIGNIFICANT BUSINESS ACCOMPLISHMENTS, SUCH AS HELPING INDIVIDUALS ENTER LOCAL MARKETS, GAIN TECHNICAL SKILLS, AND DEVELOP NEW PRODUCTS. LAND STEWARDSHIP AND EDUCATION EVENTS IN 2024 INCLUDING TWO FIRE WORKSHOPS, THREE AGROFORESTRY EVENTS, A NATURAL BUILDING EVENT AS WELL AS OPEN HOUSES AND SEVERAL OTHER EDUCATIONAL EVENTS FOR THE COMMUNITY. AMERICORPS, CONSERVATION CORPS AND SCHOOL GROUPS PARTICIPATED IN 120, 20, AND 15 DAYS OF PROGRAMMING, RESPECTIVELY. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO PARTNERED WITH EIGHT MISSION-ALIGNED ORGANIZATIONS IN HOSTING EVENTS. WE MANAGED OUR 40 ACRES CAMPUS AND CONTINUED OUR SELECTIVE THINNING FORESTRY RESEARCH. WE PRODUCED SEVERAL KILN LOADS OF BIOCHAR AS PART OF EDUCATIONAL TRAININGS, THINNED UNDERSTORY GRAND FIR AS PART OF TRAINING PROGRAM FOR CONSERVATION CORPS, AND RE-BUILT SMALL CONSTRUCTION OF OUT- BUILDINGS AS A MENTORED LEARNING EXPERIENCE. FERTILIZED THE LAND BY INTRODUCING SILVOPASTURE PRACTICES TO THE LAND-THUS REMOVING SEVERAL ACRES OF INVASIVE SPECIES, MANAGED AN ORCHARD AND EXPANDED ACCESS TO MEDICINAL AND NOURISHING PLANTS, AND MANY OTHER ASPECTS OF LAND STEWARDSHIP. THIS WORK HAS BEEN PART OF OUR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING. WE'VE HELD OPEN HOUSES, WEEKEND WORKSHOPS, AND A SERIES CALLED "FUTURE FUNDAMENTALS" WHICH EMPHASIZED VARIOUS ASPECTS OF ECOLOGICAL PRACTICES. |
