Activity 2

Youth services offers a comprehensive set of programs to help homeless youth exit street life and become self-sufficient. Our goal is to prevent homeless youth from growing up to be homeless adults. We help young people complete their education with an accredited alternative school, teachers to help them obtain their ged, and help get youth into college. We provide safety off the streets, healthy meals, showers, hygiene supplies, recreation and skill-building activities, and connection to caring adults. Our masters-level case managers work intensively with youth to meet their goals and needs around health, education, employment, community connection, and housing. Outside in offers both transitional and permanent supportive housing programs that are proven to be effective; last year, 94% of youth who graduated from our housing program did not return to the streets. Through learning opportunities at outside in, homeless youth are building their futures. This year, we helped 1,125 homeless youth.

Activity 3

Virginia woof dog day care is our nationally-recognized job training program for homeless youth. Homeless youth have an even more challenging time finding employment than young people with family supports and stable living environments. Virginia woof teaches the basics of employment, employer expectations, and customer service skills using the venue of dog day care. The connection between youth and dogs serves as the perfect springboard to teach transferable skills. In addition to the on-the-job training, youth also attend job readiness trainings which educate them on searching for employment, resume writing, interviewing and career planning. .
