“For the president and ceo compensation, the board of directors review the destination international (di) reports, which is a biennial salary and benefits survey of convention and visitors bureaus. Additional factors considered by the board are longevity and the merit performance of the ceo as well as anecdotal knowledge of comparable positions in the community. During the budgeting process for the upcoming calendar year, compensations are reviewed annually by the president and ceo and director of finance & administration in reference to the most recent report by the di. Also, taken into consideration are current wages within the organization for compatible work, longevity, and merit performance among employees. Finally, the annual projected budget figures are reviewed and the organization seeks to have the percent dedicated to personnel in line with the di survey, around 40% of the entire budget.”

“Fairbanks convention and visitors bureau is exempt from income taxes as a non-profit organization under section 501(c)(6) of the internal revenue code. The bureau is not a private foundation. Management has evaluated the bureau's tax positions and determined there are no liabilities required to be recognized as the result of uncertain tax positions. The bureau does generate unrelated business income in the form of advertising income and a 990-t is filed every year reporting significant net operating losses. Management has determined it is more likely than not that a deferred tax asset benefit will not be realized in any future period. A deferred tax asset and corresponding allowance is not reported on the statement of financial position.”
