TOGETHER! files income tax returns in the U.S. federal jurisdiction. TOGETHER! is no longer subject to U.S. federal income tax examinations by tax authorities for the years before June 30, 2013. Currently, there is no examination or pending examination with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) TOGETHER! adopted the provisions of FASB ASC 740-10, Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes, on July 1, 2012. As of June 30, 2016, there are no tax positions for which the deductibility is certain but for which there is uncertainty regarding the timing of such deductibility.

IRS990/Desc0Community Engagement: TOGETHER! works collaboratively with community partners to raise youth and adult awareness about the dangers of substance use and abuse and promote positive youth development as well as healthy family management and parenting practices. We educate policymakers about the benefits and strategies for implementing policies that protect children and communities, and promote the health of kids and families. Youth and adults volunteer and partner with us as we lead and participate in coalitions from across the state to plan and implement community prevention and education events, campaigns and more. For example, in partnership with a statewide association, we plan and implement an annual Prevention Policy Day to raise awareness about the importance of healthy youth and communities and the value of substance abuse prevention. In addition, we support staff and youth and adult volunteers to attend trainings and conferences, plan events and engage in Thurston Thrives collective impact public health activities. Funding for these efforts came from federal, state, tribal and fee-for-service sources. Our youth engagement efforts empower students to work on preventing youth substance abuse through school and community events, presentations, public service announcements, etc. Community coalitions addressing youth health and safety meet to address substance abuse and its precursors as well as to promote health and resilience; coalition work to prevent and reduce underage alcohol and other substance use in rural Thurston County communities enabled us to implement evidence-based parenting classes, community norms campaigns, youth group activities, family engagement events, and more. A Parent Resource Guide of Thurston County is also published and distributed.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0Youth Development: Community Center, After School and Summer ProgramsThis fiscal period, TOGETHER! operated a year-round Community Center, 6 After-School programs, a Family Library Nights program, several summer programs and a community school program. Through all of these programs we provide services and supports for low-income, high-need and general population youth and families. At the after-school programs and the community center, children receive tutoring and homework help, and participate in activities that further their social, emotional and cognitive development in a safe, supportive environment with appropriate mentors and role models. Youth learn new skills; demonstrate an increase in positive social behaviors; experience greater academic success in school; and learn skills, attitudes and behaviors to be healthy and resilient. Three of these after school and summer programs, based in the North Thurston school district, place extra emphasis on staff professional development and quality improvement, allowing their student-led choice activities and project-based learning to have an even greater impact on the academic and social skill outcomes! The community school program emphasizes leveraging partnerships to reach youth grades 7-10 to reduce the risk of school drop-out. For the period July 1, 2015, to June 30, 2016, TOGETHER!'s youth development programs served over 750 youth and adults, offering thousands of hours of programs and services. Depending on the specific program, performance is measured in a variety of ways including through participant surveys and focus groups, parent and teachers surveys, participant counts, and other data. These programs look at both quantitative and qualitative data and register marked improvements in math, reading, science, writing, spelling, social skills and more. Summer programs measure similar things, as well as literacy, while Family Library Nights looks at literacy, family connection to the school and other metrics. Finally, our peer health educator program collects process and outcome data to measure increases in knowledge and opportunities; in addition, we record outcomes such as the number of youth who report receiving scholarships, public recognition and/or college acceptance due in part to their participation in this program.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0Health Promotions:Through tobacco prevention presentations, campaigns and outreach, as well as through school- and-community- based health campaigns, TOGETHER! promotes healthy norms, attitudes and beliefs, helping to improve the health of South Sound kids and families. Our high school education campaigns reach students with positive normative messages that are proven to prevent and reduce student substance abuse. These campaigns run in 9 area schools including 7 high schools, one middle school and one junior-senior high school, reaching more than 10,000 students each year. Each year results differ, but consistently from year to year we see positive results in each school. Examples of such results include significant reductions in tobacco, alcohol and/or marijuana use, reductions in students reporting they turned in school work late or performed poorly on tests because of substance abuse, reductions in students reporting they got in trouble with law enforcement because of substance abuse, etc. In addition to these projects, TOGETHER! also works to reduce violence against women and educate youth and teens about healthy relationships. Through this special project in partnership with Thurston County Public Health and Social Services, TOGETHER! promoted PSAs, updated communications plans, and prepared for a social media campaign.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc0Program Support--Little Red Schoolhouse, Rural Transportation:To help provide access to services for economically disadvantaged families, TOGETHER! provides fiscal services for the Little Red Schoolhouse program and the Rural Transportation project. Little Red Schoolhouse provides school supplies for families in need each year, serving over 3,000 children from the period July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016. The Rural Transportation project expands transportation services into rural areas for low-income, elderly and/or persons with disabilities to improve their access to needed services. It also provides access to after-school programs that improve students' academic and social skills.
