Activity 2

Nutrition Community Outreach. Accomplishments include: Provide information, referrals, and application assistance to over 10,000 King County residents. Assist with application screening and submission for a number of public assistance programs, including Basic Food, Apple Health for Kids, and WIC. Conduct in-person outreach at sites throughout King County, including food banks, community clinics, libraries, and job-training sites, collaborating with over 30 partner agencies. Make referrals including information about insurance options, low-cost medical clinics, food banks, meal programs, utility assistance, and free tax preparation. Train and supervise a volunteer corps recruited by the United Way of King County, who assist with our screening and application work. Accomplishments also include: Breastfeeding Coalition of WA (BCW) has focused breastfeeding promotion efforts in businesses and hospitals. Host 2 "Business Case for Breastfeeding" trainings, equip members with tools necessary to approach businesses and discuss their breastfeeding policies. Help businesses become breastfeeding-friendly. Release promotional materials (billboards, bus signs, bumper stickers, door hangers) across the state to support moms to continue breastfeeding upon returning to work and to encourage employers to provide an adequate environment for their employees who are breastfeeding. Organize World Breastfeeding Week activities and BCW Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony. Publish Breastfeeding Matters newsletter. Work in hospitals across the state for the Maternity Care Practices Initiative to review hospitals' practices and policies related to breastfeeding, present recent research regarding best practices, and collaborate with hospitals to create a task force to ensure maternity care is evidence-based and optimal. Provided continual technical assistance to the more than 20 local breastfeeding coalitions located throughout Washington State.

Activity 3

Immunization Promotion and Awareness. Accomplishments include: Immunization promotion and awareness included: print and distribute 10,000 laminated childhood immunization schedules; quarterly (3) Immunization Action Coalition of WA (IACW) meetings with educational presentations and panels, attended by 150 IACW members; develop 7 fact sheets on immunizations for pregnant women, children, teens and adults; revise IACW website: www.immunizewa.org; produce and disseminate flu buttons at college and pro-sports games to over 5000 community members; plan and host Leadership Conference on Adult Vaccines (45 attendees); host IACW Awards Banquet (over 100 attendees), featuring a keynote address by Paul Offit; implement multi-year social marketing immunization initiative, which included: develop and pilot test a provider toolkit, campaign branding, and conduct audience research. Accomplishments also include: Initiate and implement Hepatitis B Community Engagement Project: conduct 26 community conversations with key stakeholders; produce resources in response to conversations and feedback; co-host Community Launch; form Community Engagement Councils with the Vietnamese and Ethiopian communities. Also host 2010 Annual Forum recognizing Engagement project and test 110 adults at Korean hepatitis B screening.
