Mission

See schedule oskookum creates employment opportunity for people with disabilities. Over 75% of skookum's direct labor workforce is comprised of people with a wide range of significant disabilities. In 2014 skookum continued to expand outreach to veterans with disabilities. At the close of 2014, just under 1,000 people were employed at skookum. Veterans comprise over one third of this workforce.

Skookum provides exceptional service to our clients. In doing so, we create the opportunity to integrate people of all ability into the workforce. In 2018, skookum continued to expand outreach to veterans and wounded warriors. At the close of the year, over one third of skookum's 1,300 employees were veterans, and over one quarter of those 1,300 employees were veterans with a service-connected disability. At the close of 2018, skookum managed operations in 11 states plus the district of columbia. Skookum's 2018 contractor performance ratings, as measured by our government customers through the contractor performance assessment reporting system (cpars), were consistently exceptional.

Skookum has engaged mr. Bruce overton, a compensation consultant, to benchmark the wages of skookum's executives against both our non-profit and for-profit peers. This testing is performed annually and is factored into salary determination for skookum's executives.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization is a not-for-profit organization, which is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code (irc). Accordingly, no provision has been made for federal income tax in the accompanying consolidated financial statements. The organization follows the provisions of authoritative guidance relating to accounting for uncertain tax positions. The organization recognizes the tax benefit from uncertain tax positions only if it is more likely than not that the tax positions will be sustained on examination by the tax authorities, based on the technical merits of the position. The tax benefit is measured based on the largest benefit that has the greater of 50% likelihood of being realized upon ultimate settlement. The organization recognizes interest and penalties related to income tax matters in income tax expense. As of december 31, 2018 and 2017, the organization had no uncertain tax positions requiring accrual. The organization files an exempt organization return in the u.s. Federal jurisdiction.

ON THESE FIVE PROJECTS SKOOKUM PROVIDES HOLISTIC MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR (PUBLIC WORKS) SERVICES. THIS INCLUDES ELECTRICAL, HVAC, CARPENTRY, PLUMBING, PAINTING AND OTHER MISCELLANEOUS TRADES. IN 2018, SKOOKUM ADDED A FACILITIES MANAGEMENT CONTRACT SERVING THE NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH IN POOLESVILLE, MARYLAND AND A LOGISTICS PROJECT SERVING THE DEPARTMENT OF STATE IN CENTRAL VIRGINIA. IN 2018, SKOOKUM AGAIN EXPANDED THE USE OF MAXIMO, A SOPHISTICATED WORK ORDER-DRIVEN COMPUTER MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE SYSTEM, BY INVESTING IN THE TECHNOLOGY TO INTEGRATE MAXIMO INTO HAND-HELD MOBILE DEVICES THAT WERE PLACED IN THE HANDS OF SKOOKUM FACILITIES MAINTENANCE EMPLOYEES. SKOOKUM'S INVESTMENT IN MAXIMO INCREASED THE EFFICIENCY AND EFFECTIVENESS OF THE FACILITIES MAINTENANCE BUSINESS LINE AND ALLOWED SKOOKUM TO DELIVER EVEN BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE.

SKOOKUM OPERATES THREE CENTRAL ISSUE FACILITIES (CIFS) FOR THE U.S. ARMY, ONE AT JBLM, WA, ONE AT FORT HOOD, TX AND ANOTHER AT JBLE, VIRGINIA. THESE OPERATIONS REQUIRE SKOOKUM TO MANAGE OVER 300,000 SQUARE FEET OF WAREHOUSE SPACE HOUSING ORGANIZATIONAL CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT (OCIE) FOR U.S. SOLDIERS. SKOOKUM EMPLOYEES MAINTAIN INVENTORY CONTROL OF OVER $650 MILLION DOLLARS OF OCIE. ADDITIONALLY, SKOOKUM EMPLOYEES PROVIDE MATERIAL HANDLING SUPPORT FOR SHIP BOARD PROJECTS AT THE PUGET SOUND NAVAL SHIPYARD. SKOOKUM ALSO OPERATES THE DIRECTORATE OF LOGISTICS (DOL) CONTRACT AT FORT MEADE, MARYLAND. IN SUPPORT OF THE FORT MEADE DOL CONTRACT AND THE JBLE LOGISTICS CONTRACT, SKOOKUM OPERATES THE INSTALLATION SUPPLY SUPPORT ACTIVITY (SSA), WHERE SKOOKUM EMPLOYEES ORDER, RECEIVE, STORE AND ISSUE MATERIAL ORDERED BY GARRISON PERSONNEL. ALSO AS PART OF THE MEADE DOL CONTRACT, SKOOKUM EMPLOYEES PROVIDE SHUTTLE BUS SERVICES AND REPAIR GARRISON VEHICLES, INCLUDING HEAVY DIESEL PUBLIC WORKS EQUIPMENT, EMERGENCY RESPONSE VEHICLES AND TACTICAL WHEELED VEHICLES.
