Activity 2

Transitional and permanent housing: share aspire - achieving self-sufficiency personal improvement and resource education - provides supported housing through case management to families and single adults on their way to stability and self-sufficiency. Aspire is a coordinated system for providing case management, housing and connection to supportive services in the community for homeless families and individuals. Currently, the aspire program serves 80 households each month. The program has experienced a 75% success rate and has served more than 560 households over the past six years.

Activity 3

Hunger response: share provides daily meals for the homeless and low-income members of the community. The program serves more than 100,000 meals each year and continues to grow as the local need increases. Much of the food used in the program is donated by area grocery stores and is prepared each day by volunteers and staff. What going hungry means for a child - research indicates that even mild under-nutrition experienced by young children during critical periods of growth impacts their behavior, school performance and overall cognitive development. Share's backpack program provides weekend food packs to children at 44 schools in six school district every week that school is in session. While increased from the original 75 food pack per week to 1,300 packs per week, the program is still meeting less than 10% of the need in our school districts. Share provides recipes and nutritional information in the food packs, and in addition, offers nutrition classes and food preparation classes.summer slam partners with washington state university-vancouver's ahas (at home at school) program, vancouver and evergreen school districts, and the oregon museum of science and industry (omsi) to provide a summer meal and education program at two schools. Master's degree program teaching students from washington state university and staff from omsi providing curriculum for a half-day that begins with breakfast and ends with lunch, provided by share. Over 650 children attended the program. Share also partners with columbia springs, which provides an on-site environmental education week-long workshop with food provided by share.
