“Under rare circumstances, the Steering Committee has the authority to make decisions on behalf of the full Board. This would only occur in situations where a time-sensitive decision needs to be made and is in accordance with discussions already had by the full Board. The Steering Committee is comprised of Board officers: the President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary. All members are part of the governing Board, and are elected by the full Board each year.”

Minutes are not routinely taken at Steering Committee meetings, however, if, under very rare circumstances, the Steering Committee makes a decision on behalf of the full Board, that decision is included as an addendum to Board meeting minutes so there is a written record.”

“Compensation for all agency positions including managers is compared to local wage and salary surveys--sources of such surveys may change from year to year. Based on comparisons with similar sized organizations and job positions in our county, the Executive Director determines salary adjustments for all staff including managers. A Board committee completes a performance review of the Executive Director annually, and the Board approves any salary adjustments for the Executive Director.”

“New Beginnings launched a centralized domestic violence phone and chat helpline for King County, called DVHopeline, in July 2021.”

“Social Change Program: In 2021, 536 community members increased their knowledge about domestic violence and where to turn for help through our community education and outreach efforts. 429 youth learned about healthy relationships and the warning signs of abuse through our prevention education efforts. 37 community volunteers provided 1,093 hours of service through involvement in New Beginnings' education and outreach programs, survivor support services, and organizational governance.
