Major Activities

Activity 2

Student services: whitworth's residence halls and/or on-campus houses/apartments accommodate over 1,200 students (fall 2011). Whitworth has a two-year residency requirement. The university offers 11 halls and 23 theme houses. Student clubs and organizations: whitworth has nearly 40 student clubs, ranging from amnesty international to the hawaiian club. Recent student highlights: a record four whitworth seniors were awarded fulbright english teaching assistantship grants for the 2011-12 academic year. In addition, whitworth was named a top producer of fulbright scholars in 2011-12, for the second time in three years. In 2012, for the first time in whitworth history, a team of whitworth students won the national championship at the national intercollegiate ethics bowl, sponsored by the association for practical and professional ethics. This is the third time in four years whitworth has placed in the top five in the national ethics. In addition, two students in whitworth's forensics program won national titles in speech and debate at the 2012 international public debate association's tournament when they became co-national champions out of a field of 94 debaters from 28 schools. Their wins mark the first time in whitworth history that students have taken home individual national titles in a speech or debate event. Also in 2012, one of our engineering physics majors won a prestigious barry m. Goldwater scholarship for 2012-13; he was selected from 1,123 top math, science and engineering students nominated by their institutions out of a pool of more than 300,000 students nationwide.

Activity 3

Auxiliary services: whitworth university provides dining services to over 1,200 resident students and to the many other students who live off campus. The university also provides access to purchasing books and supplies at its campus bookstore. In fiscal year 2012, auxiliary services generated gross revenues of over $12.0 million that help support the academic and students services provided to the almost 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students registered at the university.
