| ART TANK The artisan market in the real world. This program focusses on the art market and art market place. An apprenticeship style of art guidance is adopted where youth experience the rigors of professional art making practice and engage with exhibition spaces where their works are displayed and sold. Despite the restrictions due to social distancing we were able to partner with Chamblis Law to showcase youth art produced by our young artists in 2021 online and in their office gallery spaces. The Art Tank introduced the business of art to kids aged 8 to middle school age. Based on the concept of Shark Tank our kids focused on design fabrication quality control framing marketing and distribution of their work for exhibition and sales at festivals markets art fairs and galleries. This project resulted in the kids being involved in two exhibitions at the complete one at the Chattanooga Market and the other at The Bessie Smith Cultural Center in Chattanooga. The kids learned studio practice and got to make the connections between focus in the studio and reward at the end. They critique their own work while learning from the teaching six SPLASH teaching artists over the course of four months. 30 youth and 10 adult participants. ART IS FOR EVERYONE Free art classes open to all.Special attention is given to engaging low income and or at risk youth. Art is used to counteract negative influences in neighborhoods from which the kids come. The kids are engaged in a more informal apprentice style art guidance in their creative projects and benefit from the experience of the transformative nature of right brain activities. The project took place online along with in person classes that were held at the James A. Henry school building. Social distancing mandated that we conduct smaller classes. We introduced and trained kids in various skills pertaining to drawing and painting focusing on landscape painting. Our young artists learned basic principles and techniques of art making through an intricate and patient hands on approach taught by four professional artists. The youth learned the proper way to hold art tools the color wheel and mixing of paints etc. allowing space for real learning and experimentation. Current youth participants range from 3yrs 15yrs. under 5 s require an adult guardian present. 30 adults and 15 youth engaged in this activity as viewers and participants. CONVERSATIONS is a series of interviews conducted and documented by SPLASH where local experts in the arts education and faith take a critical look at black spirituality and aesthetics. 6 scholars and an audience of 750 adults and children were engaged. | $11,700 | $11,823 |
