Part VI response or note to any other line in Part VI

Lines 16a and 16b: during the 2018 - 2019 fiscal year second chance center did not have a written policy or procedure requiring the organization to evaluate its participation in joint venture arrangements under applicable federal tax law, but did take steps to make sure we safeguarded the our exempt status with respect to such arrangements. Subsequent to the conclusion of that fiscal year, second chance center did draft, adopt and implement such a written policy which does ensure complete compliance with the internal revenue code concerning unrelated business income and employing measures to protect second chance centers exempt status.

Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

Significant program services not listed on prior year return Part III line 2

The mission of second chance center is helping formerly incarcerated people transition to lives of success and fulfillment. In 2019 scc served 1346 clients with a recidivism rate of only 6.7% compared with 49% statewide. Our client base has a high rate of mental illness, brain injuries & substance abuse disorders. Many people are released with no home to go to, and no family to turn to for help. Housing and mental health care are our clients most pressing needs. Once those needs are met, they are better able to take advantage of sccs education, job training and employment programs. Scc expanded its ability to provide housing and supportive services in partnership with the division of housing. We also introduced onsite mental health program in partnership with aurora mental health.
