ALLIANCE: The U.S./European Alliance for the Therapy of CLL (Alliance) is comprised of 30 individuals from the United States and Europe, representing the worlds experts in CLL research. The members are divided into working groups focusing on one of five big ideas in CLL research (new drugs, gene/vaccine therapy, genetics, CLL-stromal interactions, transplant/immune reconstitution). The Alliance was built to encourage close collaborations within and among working groups. As such, meetings are held to bring investigators together to collaborate. Grants totaling $455,000 were expensed in 2012. For accounting purposes, CLL Global expenses grants at the time of completion of a sponsored research agreement.

Activity 3

GLOBAL COLLABORATION: Investigators from throughout the world have the opportunity to apply for CLL Global's grants. CLL Global believes strongly that global participation will be necessary to solve the CLL puzzle. CLL Global is encouraging the establishment of collaborative working groups in a number of countries. Selected countries have been identified based on specific research capabilities and/or the ability to answer unique research questions. CLL Global plans to support the initial infrastructure and research efforts in these countries. In previous years, initial funding was provided to Israel and Australia. Additional funding for Israel was reviewed in 2012 but was not expensed until 2013. Funds were awarded in 2012 to support the fellowship of an Israeli investigator that will participate in the country's working group upon completion of the fellowship.
