“There are no committees with authority to act on behalf of the governing body.”
“The certified public accountant preparing the form 990 will send a copy to the treasurer of the board of directors before filing the return. The treasurer will then take the form 990 to the executive committee for approval and authorize the executive director to sign the return.”
“The organization regularly and consistently monitors and enforces compliance with the conflict of interest policy by obtaining signatures from the board of directors and key employees stating they are in compliance with the policy.”
“The board of directors reviews comparability data of compensation for executive directors in the surrounding area. The board of directors will then determine and approve the compensation package for the executive director.”
“The executive director first determines the compensation for the key employees based on fair market value, grants received, and budget constraints. The compensation packages are then taken to the board of directors for approval.”
“The organization's governing documents and conflict of interest policy is available to the public upon request. The audited financial statements are made available to the public upon request.”
“Crisis response: through a group of dedicated and well-trained volunteers and staff, the organization runs a 24-hour hotline for victims of sexual assault, and anyone needing assistance, information, referrals or resources related to sexual assault. In addition, they operate a 24-hour hotline in partnership with law enforcement and the national human trafficking hotline to provide on-scene crisis response to victims of human trafficking. Volunteers and staff also respond 24/7 in person to victims being seen for sexual assault exams at university medical center. 669 victims were seen at the hospital in the fiscal year, and 4,524 hotline calls were taken. In addition, we see extensive use of our website, with over 9,000 website visits over the course of the year. Advocacy: the organization provides long-term advocacy to victims of sexual assault. These services include assistance with accessing victims of crime compensation, court advocacy and accompaniment, assistance with law enforcement, advocacy in schools with title ix related issues, advocacy for young juveniles and families dealing with child sexual abuse, and new this year, responses to the lvmpd area commands for clients coming to make delayed reports of sexual assault and abuse. The organization conducts regular advocacy training for volunteers and advocates in organizations throughout the area. Hundreds of clients were assisted during the year with these services, including at the newly established family justice center, a collaborative center for victims of domestic and sexual violence to receive services under one roof.”
“Education and outreach: it is the belief of the organization that while victims' services are critical to our mission, equally important is prevention education and outreach to stop the epidemic of sexual violence in our society. As such, the organization provides programs at elementary, middle and high schools throughout the clark county school district, including charter and private schools, and community venues. Altogether, over 11,000 students received prevention programming over the fiscal year, along with hundreds of adults receiving information through our enough abuse campaign. We also trained well over 1,000 hotel and club security and food and beverage personnel on recognizing predatory behavior and stopping assaults before they happen. Outreach events reach thousands of adults and children to provide educational materials and resource information.”
“Counseling and support: through a grant from the nevada women's philanthropy, in 2010 the organization developed the signs of hope counseling center to provide individual and group support to victims of sexual assault and abuse. The center provides individual therapeutic services to both primary and secondary victims. In addition, numerous support groups are now available, and therapist led. Groups are also facilitated weekly for victims who are in detention and at the women's prison, as well as at the homeless shelter for women and children. 2,362 hours of individual counseling were provided to an average of 114 active clients each month, with over 1,455 individuals attending support groups over the course of the year. With a move to expand office space during this fiscal year, there was tremendous growth in the counseling center, moving from 2-5 counseling offices, and adding additional therapist and specialties, including services to younger children between the ages of three and ten.”
