Mission

Help of southern nevada (organization) is a nonprofit corporation whose mission is to assist families and individuals throughout southern nevada to overcome barriers and attain self-sufficiency through direct services, training and referral to community resources. The organization is primarily supported through government grants, program fees, and contributions from the general public.

Homeless services homeless services presents diverse programs to support and aid the homeless throughout southern nevada. Organizations united to reach, educate, and assist chronic homeless (o.u.t.r.e.a.c.h) supply preventive planning, housing support and services to families and individuals in our community. -number of active case manager (cm) case loads at the beginning of the program year - 210 -number of clients discharged throughout the program year - 65 -number of clients brought on cm caseload throughout the program year - 199 -number of active clients on cm caseload at the end of the program year-134 -percentage of clients with substance abuse issues - 38% -percentage of clients with stable exits from the program - 29% -percentage of clients who are veterans - 8%

Emergency resource services (ers) (ers) provides a range of services that benefit individuals in crisis. We offer immediate assistance for rental and utility expenditures, bus passes, food vouchers, clothing vouchers and case management support. This service allows the individuals to remain self sufficient and prevent possible homelessness. -as food certificates, bus passes or food for clients from the pantry - 4,182 -number of referrals made in house to help programs and/or partnering agencies - 4,488 -number of households who received rent or utility assistance to prevent homelessness - 914 -number of case plans developed for clients who received rent & utility assistance - 914 -number of hopwa single and families served with food vouchers - 845 -individuals served - 4,307 -average number of inquires for rent & utilities via online applications 6,665 -average number of inquires for rent & utilities via appointment phone line - 4,400 -number of pre assessments completed for rent and utilities via online & appointment line 11,065 -six people helped with traveler's aid

DURING THE 2011/2012 FISCAL YEAR, 84,689 CALLERS WERE GIVEN ASSISTANCE THROUGH THIS PROGRAM. SHANNON WEST HOMELESS YOUTH CENTER (SWHYC) SWHYC IS A RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM OFFERED TO AT-RISK AND HOMELESS YOUTH, AGE 16-24, PROVIDING SHELTER, CASE MANAGEMENT, SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELING, EDUCATIONAL AND VOCATIONAL COUNSELING, AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES. THE SWHYC HELPED 342 YOUTHS IN THE 2011/2012 FISCAL YEAR. FAMILY SERVICES FAMILY SERVICES HAS THE BABY FIRST, A NEW PATH AND A NEW START PROGRAMS. THE BABY FIRST PROGRAM PROVIDES PRE/POST NATAL GUIDANCE TO FIRST-TIME MOTHERS, AT-RISK TEENS, AND AT-RISK WOMEN IN OUR COMMUNITY TO REDUCE THE RISK OF LOW BIRTH WEIGHT AND INFANT MORTALITY. DURING THE 2011/2012 FISCAL YEAR, 617 PREGNANT WOMEN AND/OR THEIR BABIES WERE HELPED. A NEW PATH IS A 6 TO 12 MONTH PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES RENT AND UTILITY ASSISTANCE TO LOW INCOME FAMILIES WHO ARE HOMELESS OR FACING HOMELESSNESS. THE PROGRAM FOCUSES ON PROVIDING CASE MANAGEMENT, PROGRAMMING AND SUPPORT TO ITS CLIENTS TO BECOME SELF SUFFICIENT ONCE THEY LEAVE THE PROGRAM. DURING THE 2011/2012 FISCAL YEAR, 30 FAMILIES WERE HELPED. A NEW START IS A SUPPORTIVE HOUSING PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES RENTAL ASSISTANCE AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES TO HOMELESS FAMILIES WHO HAVE A DOCUMENTED DISABILITY. THE PROGRAM FOCUSES ON PROVIDING CASE MANAGEMENT, PROGRAMMING AND SUPPORT TO ITS CLIENTS TO BECOME SELF-SUFFICIENT ONCE THEY LEAVE THE PROGRAM. DURING THE 2011/2012 FISCAL YEAR, 20 FAMILIES WERE BEING HELPED.

OUR PROGRAM PROVIDES MEASURES SUCH AS HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT, SOLAR SCREENS, INSTALLATION OF INSULATION, REFRIGERATORS, WEATHER STRIPPING, LOW-FLOW SHOWERHEADS, COMPACT FLORESCENT LIGHT BULBS, AND OTHER ENERGY SAVING MEASURES. A TOTAL OF 1,243 HOMES WERE SERVED DURING THE 2011/2012 PROGRAM YEAR.
