Additional Explanations

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Thailand, so now there are two different partners and sites in that country to accommodate the demand to go there. 24,841 service hours in utah were completed.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4B

Possible. Yha at-a-glance: 510 - hours spent reviewing applications 146 - number of applications (highest ever) 6 - 500 honorable mentions 3 - 1,000 finalists 1 - 3,000 runner-up 1 - 5,000 utah young humanitarian

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4C

We move into the future. Real life serves approximately 450 teens and puts to work 140+ volunteers.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4D

Local service directory: the youthlinc utah online local service directory provides a selective list of organizations and agencies that offer hands-on volunteer opportunities to youth in a positive mentoring atmosphere. These sites have been recommended by youthlinc service year participants. Anyone in the state can use this directory to search for sites by type of service and areas of utah, log and verify volunteer service. The local service directory has expanded its scope and abilities. The directory is now able to be used by organizations/schools outside of youthlinc to log and track hours. For example, kearns high school is able to have students not a part of the youthlinc service year set up accounts that the school administration has access to in order to view and keep track of service hours recorded by their students. Right now, this "expanded" directory is in a beta-mode, meaning that we are testing it out to see what flaws or improvements can be made before we take it to the next level. Our goal is to make this a resource available to every high school in utah. However, in order to do that, the directory must be "built" with different coding that would allow it to scale larger than it is currently. As it is, the directory can only handle about 10 organizations. We are working on raising additional funds to make this program available to more people. Global community leadership: this is a new program that is similar to the service year, but is at a "collegiate" level. Students in this program take their humanitarian service to a higher level. They engage in coursework approved by utah state university to ask students to critically evaluate their local and international humanitarian work. It also exposes students to strategies to become more involved in advocacy to affect systematic change. The maiden gcl team went to cambodia last year with dr. Steve hawks as professor of record from usu. Any tuition students pay to usu for their transcript credit is then passed on to youthlinc to help cover trip costs, making the credit a possibility at no additional cost.

Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Page 3, Part X

The organization is exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c) (3) of the internal revenue code and therefore has made no provision for federal income taxes in the accompanying financial statements. In addition, the organization has been determined by the internal revenue service not to be a "private foundation" within the meaning of section 509 (a) of the internal revenue code. There was no unrelated business income for the year ended august 31, 2017. The organization's form 990, return of organization exempt from income tax, for the years ending august 31, 2017, 2016, 2015, and 2014 are subject to examination by the irs, generally for three years after they were filed. Generally accepted accounting principles require tax effects from an uncertain tax position to be recognized in the financial statements only if the position is more likely than not to be sustained if the position were to be challenged by a taxing authority. The assessment of the tax position is based solely on the technical merits of the position, without regard to the likelihood that the tax position may be challenged. If an uncertain tax position meets the more-likely-than not threshold, the largest amount of tax benefit that is greater than 50% likely to be recognized upon ultimate settlement with the taxing authority is recorded. The organization's primary tax positions relate to its status as a not-for- profit entity exempt from income taxes and classifications of activities related to its exempt purpose. Management has evaluated the tax positions reflected in the organization's tax filings and does not believe that any material uncertain tax positions exist.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0SEE SCHEDULE O REAL LIFE. ALLOWS YOUTHLINC STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO MENTOR AND TUTOR REFUGEE TEENS. THE REAL LIFE CURRICULUM FOCUSES ON LIFE SKILLS (SUCH AS HEALTH, HYGIENE, CAREER DEVELOPMENT, FINANCIAL LITERACY)AND CULTURAL EXCHANGE THROUGH FRIENDSHIPS FORMED THROUGH SPORT, THE ARTS, AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES. REAL LIFE'S PARTNERSHIP WITH ASIAN ASSOCIATION HAS INCLUDED EXPANDING TO TWO ADDITIONAL SITES WITH THEM. THIS PUTS THE TOTAL AT 12 SITES IN THE COMMUNITY. OUR DONOR PORTFOLIO HAS ALSO DIVERSIFIED, A RESULT OF THE HARD WORK OF THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR, MAKING REAL LIFE MORE FINANCIALLY STABLE AS WE MOVE INTO THE FUTURE. REAL LIFE SERVES APPROXIMATELY 450 TEENS AND PUTS TO WORK 140+ VOLUNTEERS.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/ExpenseAmt039497
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc0LOCAL SERVICE DIRECTORY: THE YOUTHLINC UTAH ONLINE LOCAL SERVICE DIRECTORY PROVIDES A SELECTIVE LIST OF ORGANIZATIONS AND AGENCIES THAT OFFER HANDS-ON VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES TO YOUTH IN A POSITIVE MENTORING ATMOSPHERE.

IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0THE ORGANIZATION IS EXEMPT FROM FEDERAL INCOME TAXES UNDER SECTION 501(C) (3) OF THE INTERNAL REVENUE CODE AND THEREFORE HAS MADE NO PROVISION FOR FEDERAL INCOME TAXES IN THE ACCOMPANYING FINANCIAL STATEMENTS.
