Relied upon volunteers in their own communities, attend monthly planning meetings where they are mentored to take leadership roles at the international service site, and spend two weeks of their summer vacation serving in small impoverished villages in a number of developing countries. In return for these commitments, youthlinc students earn a sponsorship that pays a portion of their international service trip costs. In 2016, our service year program had more teams than ever with nine teams total, comprised of students and adults from all over utah and seven international destinations. Our teams traveled to nepal, cambodia, thailand, guatemala, peru, kenya, and our newest site madagascar. We celebrated opening our madagascar site by sending two teams, one in june and one in july. Madagascar was a huge success with high quality projects and incredible relationships with the local people. In addition to opening our madagascar site we also changed locations and coordination of our thailand site. Youthlinc forged a new partnership with a local ngo, travel- to-teach, which took our two teams from southern thailand up into the mountains of the north to work with the karen hill tribe population. Youthlinc is excited to continue working with travel-to-teach and looks forward to a long and prosperous partnership with them. Last year was also a record year in fundraising for international projects. We are grateful to the many donors, large and small, who contributed to our international projects. We could not do it without them. Team members did a tremendous job raising nearly 66,500 toward international project funds. This amount is in addition to funds for construction projects. The michel family foundation, our long time donor, contributed 39,900 towards construction and renovation projects. We are grateful for our various other donors who also contributed to funding construction projects in peru and nepal. This past 2015-16 service year, 234 students contributed 19,342 hours of local service right here in utah 85% of youthlinc alums report that the youthlinc service year significantly increased their likelihood to volunteer.

Are high school or undergraduate college students who excel in their efforts to give back to their communities. The overall winner of the award receives a monetary award to be used for tuition for either undergraduate or graduate studies at the college or university of the student's choice. This year, our finalists inspired more students than ever by sharing their story of service at the utah campus compact fall retreat, utah-idaho key club fall rally, latinos in action, and on abc4 good things utah. We are indebted to the george s. And dolores dor eccles foundation, robert d. Kent jr. Trust, and shaun and annette michel for making this award possible. Yha at-a-glance: 420 - hours spent reviewing applications 123 - number of applications (highest ever) 5 - 500 honorable mentions 3 - 1,000 finalists 1 - 3,000 runner-up 1 - 5,000 utah young humanitarian 1 - new online application system

Refugee teens. The real life curriculum focuses on life skills (such as health, hygiene, career development, financial literacy)and cultural exchange through friendships formed through sport, the arts, and social activities. Real life now serves ten centers and affects approximately 450+ teens and 140+ real life youth volunteer interns and mentors. During 2016, real life began programming at three additional sites: cottonwood high school, evergreen jr. High school and highland high school and expanded services at west high school. We currently partner with promise south salt lake, salt lake school district, granite school district, and the asian association of utah. To maintain and increase curriculum quality as we expanded to accommodate the increased number of service sites, youthlinc has extended the hours of support personnel. Real life support personnel now includes a full time real life director and two assistant real life directors.

See schedule o the youthlinc utah online local service directory provides a selective list of organizations and agencies that offer hands-on volunteer opportunities to youth in a positive mentoring atmosphere. These sites have been recommended by youthlinc service year participants. Anyone in the state can use this directory to search for sites by type of service and areas of utah, log and verify volunteer service. Thanks to the george s. And dolores dor eccles foundation and wells fargo, we are excited to announce that we will be renovating the youthlinc utah local service directory's tracking system to allow outside groups, such as high school clubs or nonprofits, to easily track service hours and verify them with a supervisor.

IRS990/Desc0SEE SCHEDULE O LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL SERVICE PROGRAM FOR UTAH'S YOUTH. STUDENTS BECOME RELIED UPON VOLUNTEERS IN THEIR OWN COMMUNITIES, ATTEND MONTHLY PLANNING MEETINGS WHERE THEY ARE MENTORED TO TAKE LEADERSHIP ROLES AT THE INTERNATIONAL SERVICE SITE, AND SPEND TWO WEEKS OF THEIR SUMMER VACATION SERVING IN SMALL IMPOVERISHED VILLAGES IN A NUMBER OF DEVELOPING COUNTRIES.
