Mission

The Organization supports the charitable purposes of the Central Indiana Community Foundation Inc., Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana Inc., and The Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce Inc. ("Supported Organizations") by working to (1) promote connectivity by improving highways and streets, (2) enhance the environment, (3) reduce infrastructure barriers that fragment communities, (4) create a healthier community and environment by increasing transportation options, (5) ensure dignity, and local engagement in city infrastructure decisions, and to (6) increase opportunities for sustainable economic planning and development.

The Organization worked with the Federal Highway Administration to prepare for a Planning Study focused on the southeast leg of Interstate I-65/I-70 Indianapolis downtown Inner Loop and surrounding areas that will be funded with the USDOT Reconnecting Communities Pilot Program grant. The Organization was awarded the grant in the Spring of 2023. The grant is part of federal initiative to reconnect communities that were cut off from economic opportunity and burdened by past transportation infrastructure decisions. The preparation work included completing an RFQ for a technical engineering support and selecting contractors to participate in the Study. The Organization expects to begin the Study in 2024 after the grant agreement with USDOT is finalized and executed.$0$30,000
The Organization continued its educational mission by hosting or participating in over 100 stakeholder meetings and presentations and providing regular email and website updates, reaching over 1,000 people. The objective for the meetings, presentations, and communications was to engage stakeholders in a community conversation about options of rebuilding the city's urban highways using recessed construction. They were also designed to provide general education about urban highway infrastructure design and engage community members in discussions about alternatives. Expenses for meeting spaces and materials distributed at these meetings were donated.$0$29,095
The Organization also continued to engage the community in focus group conversations about one area of the I-65/I-70 Interstate Inner Loop, the subject of the Indiana Department of Transportation's Safety and Efficiency Project. After collecting community input in 2022, the Organization finalized a report of recommendations and design alternatives in 2023 to improve interchanges for community connectivity. The Organization presented the report to the community for input then submitted the report to INDOT. Professionals working on the report and community engagement received small stipends for their efforts. Most of their time was donated as in-kind services support.$0$6,500
