Mission

Our purpose is to transform neighborhoods into community-powered safety nets in which individuals living within them support one another unconditionally and for the long-haul. We are organized exclusively for charitable purposes under Section 501c3.

Program Services

We organized residents at Glenmore Plaza a public housing building managed by the New York City Housing Authority NYCHA to hold NYCHA accountable to making long overdue repairs at the building. Residents knocked on every door in the public housing development to collect repair needs and then organized a block party to serve as a deadline for NYCHA to complete all collected repairs. Within 60 days NYCHA made 1,600 repairs completing 87% of requested repairs many of which were decades overdue.$21,186$35,615
We organized community members to create susus a practice of pooling funds in order to help one another pay bills or start businesses. In our "Neighbor Teams" of 4-5 our members pooled roughly $500 every month which we then matched. The total $1,000 was given to one member of the team for the month to use as they needed to support them. These funds proved pivotal in avoiding eviction paying overdue rent buying food for children paying hospital bills and supporting members with essential expenses. The recipient of the $1,000 would rotate each month. This served as a form of direct cash assistance.$24,500$24,500
Every Neighbor Team is given $300 month in gathering funds to come together as a team. This is where members of our Neighbor Teams get to know one another and build solidarity and support resulting in watching each other's kids cultivating the trust to pool funds to pay bills sharing resources starting businesses together and more.$17,000$17,000
