MISSION STATEMENT: DEC is a new, grassroots nonprofit serving folks with disabilities in the Willamette Valley and across Oregon. We are a community center made by and for disabled people. We are a committed to disability justice and have a focus on disability culture, pride, and a fierce determination to make the world equitable for everyone. We bring disabled people from the margins of society to the center and offer a safe space for coalition, community building, and resource navigation. DEC challenges power structures, believes in interdependence, explores identities and values, and builds social connections between people across Oregons disability communty. We also help educate our local community about ableism and change social misperceptions about people with disabilities. NEW PROGRAMS:In 2021, DEC added 5 programs to directly impact outcomes around increased disability pride and culture building as well as health and resource navigation supports for disabled people.Program 1: Healthy Lifestyles Holistic Health and Wellness - See page 2Program 2: Project Amplify - See page 2Program 3: Friendships and Dating Program - See page 2Program 4: Music Club: Magic Luscious Spirit Sounds is a disability community-led space for folks of all abilities who are passionate about music and connection. The group nbelieve that music is our power. Each week allows folks space to explore and share the music they are creating, songs theyre writing, or a tune that they cannot stop listening to! Both experienced performers and musicians and those who just enjoy a good beat are welcome in this space centered around supporting each other and exploring sounds.Program 5: Moth Dreams Zine is a self-published art and writing magazine celebrating disabiity beauty and pride. Moth Dreamers meet biweekly to share what they are creating and explore beautiful expressions of disability in the arts. The group also works together to prepare and publish a quarterly magazine.

This programs focus is on BIPOC and queer disabled folks. DEC recently funded the website start-up costs for a local Black, disabled artist/poet to bring better visibility to her incredible work and market her online store, as well as the funded technical software for a disabled podcaster of color to be able to start cultivating her podcast series.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0DECs Friendships and Dating Program is an evidence-based, comprehensive approach teaching individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities the skills needed to develop meaningful relationships, improve social communication and agency, understand consent and competency, and reduce adverse outcomes including sexually transmitted infections, unwanted pregnancy, exploitation & assault. The 10-week curriculum focuses on skill-building using a group process and experiential learning. The curriculum is designed to be taught in small groups of 6-10 mixed-gendered participants. It promotes continued skill-building and social connections for disabled people that also decrease isolation and help participants think about feelings, relationships, boundaries, communication, meeting people, first impressions, planning social activities, the dating process, personal safety, sexual health, recognizing differences, conflict resolution, and maintaining relationships.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0DECs Healthy Lifestyles (HL) Holistic Health and Wellness programming employs an evidence-based holistic health and wellness curriculum designed by and for folks who experience disabilities. We explore wellness through social, emotional, and physical health and by leading a life centered around empowered interdependence, personal beliefs, values, and meaningful activities. This programming is available to disabled adults in our broad service area. It explores cross-disability collaboration and curriculum implementation, and it augments supported decision-making team involvement. While Healthy Lifestypes is a national curriculum, DEC offers a unique model insofar as this programming is co-facilitated by disabled self-advocates who are paid for their work.

We are a community center made by and for disabled people. We are a committed to disability justice and have a focus on disability culture, pride, and a fierce determination to make the world equitable for everyone. We bring disabled people from the margins of society to the center and offer a safe space for coalition, community building, and resource navigation. DEC challenges power structures, believes in interdependence, explores identities and values, and builds social connections between people across Oregons disability communty. We also help educate our local community about ableism and change social misperceptions about people with disabilities. NEW PROGRAMS:In 2021, DEC added 5 programs to directly impact outcomes around increased disability pride and culture building as well as health and resource navigation supports for disabled people.Program 1: Healthy Lifestyles Holistic Health and Wellness - See page 2Program 2: Project Amplify - See page 2Program 3: Friendships and Dating Program - See page 2Program 4: Music Club: Magic Luscious Spirit Sounds is a disability community-led space for folks of all abilities who are passionate about music and connection. The group nbelieve that music is our power. Each week allows folks space to explore and share the music they are creating, songs theyre writing, or a tune that they cannot stop listening to! Both experienced performers and musicians and those who just enjoy a good beat are welcome in this space centered around supporting each other and exploring sounds.Program 5: Moth Dreams Zine is a self-published art and writing magazine celebrating disabiity beauty and pride. Moth Dreamers meet biweekly to share what they are creating and explore beautiful expressions of disability in the arts. The group also works together to prepare and publish a quarterly magazine.
