One earth is accelerating collective action to solve the climate crisis through groundbreaking science, inspiring media, and an innovative approach to climate philanthropy that drives urgently needed resources to frontline leaders and organizations directly implementing climate solutions. The latest science, led by one earth, shows we can achieve the critical goal of limiting global average temperature rise to 1.5 degrees celsius through three pillars of collective action--a shift to 100% renewable energy by 2050, protection and restoration of half of the world's lands and oceans, and a shift to net-zero food systems and fibersheds.

“The form 990 is prepared by an independent tax accountant, and reviewed by the organization's director of operations and executive director; adjustments are made, as necessary. A complete copy of the form 990 is provided to all members of the governing body prior to filing with the internal revenue service.”
“Each director, principal officer, and member of a committee with board-delegated powers annually signs a conflict of interest disclosure statement; in addition, these individuals have an on-going duty to disclose any potential or actual conflicts of interest. Should a potential conflict be identified, the conflicted individual has the opportunity to disclose to the board all material facts; thereafter, the conflicted individual leaves the board meeting while the determination of conflict of interest is discussed and voted upon. Should the board determine an actual conflict of interest exists, the board exercises due diligence to determine whether the organization can obtain (with reasonable efforts) a more advantageous transactions or arrangement form a person or entity that would not give rise to a conflict of interest. If a more advantageous transaction or arrangement is not reasonably possible under circumstances not producing a conflict of interest, the board shall determine by a majority vote of the directors then in office (without counting the vote of the interested director or directors), whether the transaction is in the organization's best interest, for its own benefit, and whether it is fair and reasonable. The proceedings are recorded in the minutes of the board meeting.”
“Compensation for the executive director is established by independent voting members of the board of directors (as the executive director is also voting member of the board), who utilizes comparability data (including compensation surveys/studies and form 990s of other organizations) for similarly situated employees in similar organizations and geographic regions to substantiate its decision. This process is recorded in the board meeting minutes. Form 990, section b, line 15b has been "marked" no as the organization does not compensate any additional officers or key employees (by definition of the form 990 instructions).”
“The governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements are made available to the public upon request.”
“Professional fees: program service expenses 212,340. Management and general expenses 38. Fundraising expenses 14,838. Total expenses 227,216.”
“The organization is considered a public charity and is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. The organization is also exempt from state income tax. The organization is exempt from state tax under state of california revenue and taxation code section 23701d. Only unrelated business income is subject to federal and state income tax. Management believes that all of the organization's income is related to its exempt purpose. Accordingly, no provision for income taxes has been made in the accompanying financial statements. The organization has no unrecognized tax benefits or uncertain tax positions as of december 31, 2021.”

| IRS990/Desc | 0 | ONE EARTH HAS THREE CORRESPONDING PROGRAMS--SCIENCE, PHILANTHROPY, AND COMMUNICATIONS--THAT WORK IN UNISON TO ACCELERATE COLLECTIVE CLIMATE ACTION. OUR SCIENCE PROGRAM IS BUILDING A CLEAR ROADMAP OF THE SOLUTIONS THAT ARE NECESSARY TO ACHIEVE THE 1.5 DEGREE CELSIUS GOAL. THROUGH A HIGHLY COLLABORATIVE AND INNOVATIVE APPROACH, OUR PHILANTHROPY PROGRAM WORKS TO QUICKLY SCALE RESOURCES FOR ON-THE-GROUND CLIMATE SOLUTIONS AROUND THE WORLD. AND OUR MEDIA PROGRAM IS BUILDING A NEW SOLUTION-ORIENTED NARRATIVE ON CLIMATE THAT EDUCATES PEOPLE ABOUT CLIMATE SOLUTIONS AND TELLS THE INSPIRATIONAL STORIES OF THE EVERYDAY HEROES ALL AROUND US WHO ARE ACTIVELY CREATING THE VIBRANT, JUST FUTURE THAT IS POSSIBLE.SCIENCE PROGRAM: PROVING WHAT'S POSSIBLEONE EARTH DEVELOPS AND SUPPORTS CUTTING-EDGE, ACTIONABLE SCIENCE THAT CAN INFORM AND INFLUENCE DECISION MAKERS TO ACHIEVE PARIS-ALIGNED ROADMAPS AND POLICIES IN THE PUBLIC, PRIVATE, AND NGO SECTORS. WE WORK CLOSELY WITH LEADING EXPERTS TO DEVELOP SCIENTIFIC PRODUCTS THAT CAN DIRECTLY SUPPORT THE 1.5 DEGREE CELSIUS GOAL. WE ALSO PRODUCE EXECUTIVE BRIEFINGS AND ACCESSIBLE COMMUNICATIONS ASSETS ABOUT THE SOLUTIONS PATHWAYS TO INFORM STAKEHOLDERS AND DECISION-MAKERS WHO ARE ADVOCATING FOR KEY POLICY SHIFTS. AT THE CORE OF OUR WORK IS THE GROUNDBREAKING ONE EARTH CLIMATE MODEL WHICH PROVIDES A ROADMAP FOR LIMITING GLOBAL AVERAGE TEMPERATURE RISE TO 1.5 DEGREE CELSIUS USING CURRENTLY AVAILABLE TECHNOLOGIES. THIS RESEARCH, SUPPORTED BY ONE EARTH, WAS THE CULMINATION OF A TWO-YEAR COLLABORATION WITH 17 LEADING SCIENTISTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY SYDNEY (UTS), TWO INSTITUTES AT THE GERMAN AEROSPACE CENTER (DLR), AND THE UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE'S CLIMATE & ENERGY COLLEGE. THE 500-PAGE BOOK, ACHIEVING THE PARIS CLIMATE AGREEMENT GOALS (TESKE ET AL. 2019), WAS RELEASED BY THE PRESTIGIOUS SCIENTIFIC PUBLISHER SPRINGER NATURE AND QUICKLY BECAME THE MOST DOWNLOADED CLIMATE TEXT IN THE PUBLISHER'S HISTORY, CITED IN DOZENS OF SCIENTIFIC PAPERS. THE MODEL PROVIDES THE LEAST-COST PATHWAYS FOR DECARBONIZING OUR ENERGY SYSTEM AND SHOWS THE POWERFUL ROLE FORESTS AND AGRICULTURAL SYSTEMS CAN PLAY. THE SECOND VERSION OF THE CLIMATE MODEL WAS RECENTLY RELEASED, WHICH PROVIDES DECARBONIZATION STRATEGIES FOR ALL MAJOR INDUSTRIES AND THE FINANCIAL SECTOR.ONE EARTH ALSO SPEARHEADED THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE GLOBAL SAFETY NET (GSN), THE FIRST COMPREHENSIVE GLOBAL-SCALE ANALYSIS OF TERRESTRIAL AREAS ESSENTIAL FOR BIODIVERSITY AND CLIMATE RESILIENCE, TOTALING 50.4% OF THE EARTH'S LAND. THE REPORT WAS PUBLISHED IN SCIENCE ADVANCES AND IS ALSO AVAILABLE THROUGH AN INTERACTIVE WEB APPLICATION (GLOBALSAFETYNET.APP) ONE EARTH BUILT IN PARTNERSHIP WITH GOOGLE EARTH THAT ALLOWS USERS TO CLICK ON A COUNTRY, STATE, OR ECOREGION TO SEE CONFIGURATIONS OF BIOLOGICALLY IMPORTANT LAND FOR EACH REGION. THE GSN IS QUICKLY GAINING MOMENTUM AND INFLUENCING CONSERVATION AND CLIMATE POLICY AT THE INTERNATIONAL AND REGIONAL LEVELS. IN 2021, THE GSN WAS HONORED BY FAST COMPANY AS A "WORLD CHANGING IDEA" IN THE DATA & AI CATEGORY, AND EARLIER THIS YEAR WAS AWARDED SILVER FOR "BEST STRATEGY IN SUSTAINABILITY, ENVIRONMENT & CLIMATE" CATEGORY IN THE INAUGURAL ANTHEM AWARDS. THESE GROUNDBREAKING SCIENTIFIC EFFORTS, ALONG WITH MANY OTHERS CURRENTLY UNDERWAY, PROVIDE A GLOBAL BLUEPRINT AND REGIONAL ROADMAPS TO HELP DRIVE SWIFT CLIMATE ACTION FROM THE TOP DOWN AND THE BOTTOM UP, INFLUENCING CLIMATE POLICY AND EMPOWERING THE CLIMATE MOVEMENT WITH DATA THEY NEED TO MAKE SCIENCE-BACKED DEMANDS. THESE SCIENTIFIC EFFORTS CAN ALSO INFORM HOW CAPITAL CAN BE DISTRIBUTED, PROVIDING INVESTORS WITH THE CLARITY AND CONFIDENCE TO INVEST IN SOLUTIONS THAT WORK, AND THEREBY TURNING SCIENCE INTO MEANINGFUL CLIMATE ACTION.PHILANTHROPY PROGRAM: SCALING SOLUTIONS FROM THE GROUND UPCURRENTLY, LESS THAN 2% OF ALL CHARITABLE GIVING GOES TO EFFORTS TO SOLVE THE CLIMATE CRISIS. AND JUST A FRACTION OF THOSE DOLLARS REACHES ON-THE-GROUND PROJECTS AND COMMUNITIES ON THE FRONTLINE |
