“The mission of the folded map project is to be: a resident-, advocacy-, and policy-influencing tool that invites audiences to open a dialogue and question how we are all impacted by racial and institutional conditions segregating the city.”

“During fy 2022, folded map accomplished the following activities in service of its mission: 1.)supported by a grant from the chicago community trust we continued to expand the impact of folded map, with a particular focus on making substantial progress on producing curriculum materials for teachers to use to engage their students (middle/high school) through reflection and action around issues of segregation. The student and teacher editions were written, protoyped, and pilot tested; feedback from teachers was solicited; and it was introduced to the public through an event hosted by wttw-tv, chicago's public tv station. 2.)we continued to expand our repertoire of engagement activities, with continued collaborations and partnerships to encourage other organizations and institutions to disrupt the cycle of segregation across schools, churches, and other organizations. Folded map partnered with the city of chicago to produce a special edition of the folded map action kit, and have an ongoing collaboration to build community engagement around folded map to an ever-growing audience. 3.)folded map has supported the chicago community trust's efforts to address the homeownership gap in chicago by helping create a series of conversations that combine folded map, folded map creator tonika johnson's expansion project, inequity for sale, along with social science research and on-the-ground insights from community organizations. The goal is to create cross-sector conversations and spur innovative solutions to the systemic inequities created by racist housing policies in chicago. The conversations encourage knowledge acquisition among participants, and seek to inspire innovative solutions.”
