Mission

May All Black Lives Be Healed, Liberated and Whole. Our mission is to reclaim the inherent dignity, brilliance, and humanity of all Black people. Our work is an iterative process framework informed by the lived experiences and grounded in the teachings of Dr. Joi Lewis. We seek to: honor families and communities, provide urgent and sustainable healing support, address the direct, indirect and collateral consequences of racism and its intersection with other forms of oppression, provide education and training that empowers all through the Healing Justice Foundation. The Healing Justice Foundation is a national philanthropic non-profit with roots in Minnesota. HJF provides individuals, families, organizations, and communities with resources to provide urgent healing support to Black people. We seek to be the Red Cross for Black and Brown communities in the aftermath of traumatic events including police involved shootings, COVID-19 and racial injustice.

The Board of Directors meets monthly with the President. Any potential conflict of interest would be discussed at these meetings and further investigated by the Finance Committee.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The Healing Justice Foundation has included in its Personnel Handbook a "Compensation Determination" clause as well as a "Performance Evaluations" clause. Compensation Determination Initial compensation is determined by several factors including: experience, nature of position, location, and the standard cost of living. Subsequent increases, or in rare cases decreases, in compensation will be on the basis of performance, overall contribution, equity, parity and market research. Performance Evaluations: the Healing Justice Foundation believes that feedback on a consistent basis is the best way to improve and maintain optimal performance. Our goal is to keep employees informed of what they are doing well, as well as areas for improvement. Employees will have scheduled meetings with their Supervisor to discuss their performance. For remote employees: These meetings will generally take place via videoconference. This is an official business meeting. As such, employees are expected to be properly prepared and in a quiet location where they have confidentiality and no distractions or disruptions.

IRS990/Desc0Healing Programs: In 2024, through the support of foundations and individuals donors, HJF contributed to 5 main healing programs: Co-Sponsoring: Provides financial resources to organizations that center Black Liberation, Black Joy and Healing Justice. This year, Healing Justice Foundation collaborated with 4 institutions: Black Youth Healing Arts Center for their Healing, Higher Ed, & the Hood program supporting the young people from the BYHAC Poetry Lab to create a publication from their writing. Win Back MN for their Day of Remembrance hosted on May 24th. During this event Win Back gave out 4 scholarships to deserving young people: 1. George Floyd Scholarship presented by George Floyd's nephew Brandon; 2. Darnella Frazier Scholarship 3. Dr Josie Johnson and Professor Mahmoud-El-Kati Scholarship and 4. Elders Vicky Davis and Nathan Khaliq. V-Fest: V-Fest has become an annual celebration that brings together hundreds of individuals passionate about health and wellness to improve health outcomes. This year's event was even more spectacular, with a lineup of exciting performances, engaging workshops, and vibrant exhibition of culture that showcased the best of Saint Paul. Reviving Roots: Black Healers Brunch, June 2024 - a space of joy and connection for Black healing professionals. Dr. Joi Mutual Aid HJF Liberatory Fund: Provides mutual aid for basic needs and healing support to Black Healers and organizers to stand in the gap as needed.

HJF provides individuals, families, organizations, and communities with resources to provide urgent healing support to Black people. Compensation Determination Initial compensation is determined by several factors including: experience, nature of position, location, and the standard cost of living. Subsequent increases, or in rare cases decreases, in compensation will be on the basis of performance, overall contribution, equity, parity and market research. Performance Evaluations: the Healing Justice Foundation believes that feedback on a consistent basis is the best way to improve and maintain optimal performance. Our goal is to keep employees informed of what they are doing well, as well as areas for improvement. Employees will have scheduled meetings with their Supervisor to discuss their performance. For remote employees: These meetings will generally take place via videoconference. This is an official business meeting. As such, employees are expected to be properly prepared and in a quiet location where they have confidentiality and no distractions or disruptions.
