B3s organizational model includes 4 main operational domains; the kiosk, catering, community programs, and social programming.”

“Lines 28-30Community Programming serves as an extension of both the kiosk and the social opportunities B3 Coffee provides. These programs are semester-based paid educational opportunities for B3 members. Both Co-founders of B3 use their background as occupational therapists to design and implement topical instructive classes in response to the needs of the local disability community. We offered 2 pilot programs in the spring, summer, and fall. Belonging in the workplace was a weekly class which provided concrete vocational training and employment prep for participants. This class is also tied in with our operations at the Kiosk, as all interns are expected to participate in the class (for no cost). Living Your Best Life is a class which provides meaningful engagement and learning related to adult living skills (cooking, community navigation, goal planning, tool use, etc.). Both classes are key revenue drivers due to low operational costs; as such, we are able to offer full and partial scholarships to any participants in need.The Kiosk domain represents the B3 Coffee Kiosk which operates at the Chapel Hill Public Library. The Kiosk was started in June of 2022 (so 7 month of data for 2022) and the rent and cost of the physical stand are currently free. The kiosk serves as a place of transaction between the B3 community and the broader local community. The Kiosk is operated by trained interns on a semester basis. We hire an equal number of B3 members with and without disabilities and pair them at the kiosk. What makes our model different is the implementation of a no-hier hierarchy model in which all interns are equal and support one another. As an extension of this model we also offer allyship training to interns, promote disability justice in our practices, and provide free admission to Belonging in the Workplace.Catering/community pop ups is where B3 started when it was a student organization. During the fiscal year of 2022 we put catering on the backburner to focus our efforts on developing the kiosk and our community programs. However, catering represents the highest profit margin of any of the 3 primary domains. B3 uses a multi-tiered flat rate model for catering services which are offered to local organizations and persons. In December 2022 we hired 2 new employees for the sole purpose of coordinating and executing catering events.”
