Financial Statement Notes

Part III, Line 4:

It is the vision of The Wildlife Experience to inspire an appreciation and respect for wildlife and the outdoors through adventure, experiences, and education. Toward that end, the Museum is caring for over 800 catalogued objects in its total collections, including fine art, natural specimens, models and replicas. The collections are a valuable tool in providing educational, interactive and entertaining experiences that both instill respect and inspire efforts to conserve habitat and wildlife. The fine art collection is interpreted in both gallery exhibits and public spaces, where it serves educators to explore both art and science topics, from artistic styles, techniques and materials, to animal adaptations, taxonomy and behaviors. Over two dozen audio tour stops throughout the facility highlight these priceless objects and bring deeper understanding to the viewer. The fine art collection includes paintings, photographs and sculptures by well-known wildlife artists. The collection focuses on wild animals of the world depicted in their natural habitats. Visitors enjoying the Nature Trail, which encircles the museum, experience 14 heroic-size monuments and 15 smaller bronzes, all of which represent North American wildlife. Interpretive signage notes the characteristics and importance of these animals and relates them to our region, while also discussing the indigenous plants cultivated throughout the museum property. The Museum's natural history collections encompass more than 450 taxidermy animal specimens and more than 75 education bio-facts such as insects, hides, horns, claws, models and replicas. The education collections are used daily in programs both at the museum and in surrounding schools. The Wildlife Experience also maintains 24 animatronics (people and animal recreations that are electronically animated). Over 275 objects were used to interpret the Museum's signature exhibition called Globeology, a 28,000 square foot dynamic and interactive journey along a quarter mile path through eight biomes of the world, each of which helps maintain the planet's ecological equilibrium. The Wildlife Experience seeks to grow these collections in order to tell the many significant stories about animals and our world. As the Earth's wild spaces disappear, life-size animals displayed at The Wildlife Experience in a re-created reality may be the only experience of nature some visitors will enjoy. These priceless objects help us understand our place among wildlife, and how and why we will be served by protecting the natural world.

Part V, Line 4:

Earnings of the Fund are for general operating needs of the Museum.

Part X, Line 2:

The Wildlife Experience, Inc. (TWE) follows the Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes accounting standard which requires TWE to determine whether a tax position (and the related tax benefit) is more likely than not to be sustained upon examination by the applicable taxing authority, based solely on the technical merits of the position. TWE believes that it has appropriate support for any tax positions taken, and as such, does not have any uncertain tax positions that are significant to the financial statements. If incurred, interest and penalties associated with uncertain tax positions would be recorded in the period assessed. No interest or penalties were assessed in 2014. TWE's federal Return of Organization Exempt From Income Tax (Form 990) and Exempt Organization Business Income Tax Return (Form 990-T) for the previous three years, 2011 through 2013, are subject to examination by the IRS, generally for three years after they were filed.
