“The form 990 is reviewed by the board of directors.”
“The conflict of interest policy is shared with new board members at the time of their orientation. They are asked regularly at board meetings if any potential conflicts exist.”
“The compensation for the executive director is determined through colorado nonprofit association data, along with other data, and is approved by the board of directors. Compensation in 2019 includes a portion due in 2018, but not paid until 2019.”
“The organization's governing documents are available upon request.”
“Serving both patients and their siblings, wapiyapi allows children to just be kids again and recapture the spontaneity of being childlike which cancer has stolen from them. The mission of the organization is to foster healing, fun and friendships for families facing childhood cancer through an exceptional camp experience. While campers are safe and having fun, parents and caregivers take respite which is an integral step for continued healing.”
“Wapiyapi benefits greatly from donated time from physicians and nurses. These amounts cannot be included in the revenue on this form, but are greatly appreciated by the organization as programs cannot be offered without the health care needs of participants being met. In 2020, donated office space was valued at 7,800, and donated graphic design, social media and camp website services were valued at 7,110.”
“In march of 2020, due to the covid-19 pandemic (the pandemic), the organization faced new challenges that required immediate response. Upon recommendation of its medical advisory committee, the board voted to pivot camp wapiyapi to an online/virtual format. The annual campfires & cocktails fundraising event was also held virtually due to the pandemic. Despite these changes, the organization maintained the same goal for camp wapiyapi: to foster connections and an additional circle from which families may draw strength and support. During the long duration and toxicity of treatments, no child should have to wait to laugh and play with others who understand them and to experience hope. Supported by compassionate volunteers, virtual camp was all about campers discovering new things about themselves, boosting their resolve, and inspiring hope. Traditional and modified activities encouraged playfulness and adventure, team time strengthened bonds of friendship, and wapiyapi favorites such as campfire night and the disco dance promoted community. During 2020, wapiyapi served 125 children from 67 families through a week- long camp of safe, online connections during the pandemic. Children who traditionally were unable to attend a residential camp were now able to participate including patients in the hospital.”

| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 1 | WAPIYAPI BENEFITS GREATLY FROM DONATED TIME FROM PHYSICIANS AND NURSES. THESE AMOUNTS CANNOT BE INCLUDED IN THE REVENUE ON THIS FORM, BUT ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED BY THE ORGANIZATION AS PROGRAMS CANNOT BE OFFERED WITHOUT THE HEALTH CARE NEEDS OF PARTICIPANTS BEING MET. IN 2020, DONATED OFFICE SPACE WAS VALUED AT 7,800, AND DONATED GRAPHIC DESIGN, SOCIAL MEDIA AND CAMP WEBSITE SERVICES WERE VALUED AT 7,110. |
| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 2 | IN MARCH OF 2020, DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC (THE PANDEMIC), THE ORGANIZATION FACED NEW CHALLENGES THAT REQUIRED IMMEDIATE RESPONSE. CHILDREN WHO TRADITIONALLY WERE UNABLE TO ATTEND A RESIDENTIAL CAMP WERE NOW ABLE TO PARTICIPATE INCLUDING PATIENTS IN THE HOSPITAL. |
