Mission

Denver urban scholars partners with high poverty, high performing schools to unlock the potential of students facing added challenges by creating individual pathways to career and college.denver urban scholars has combined with denver kids, inc. Effective july 1, 2019, into a single organization, which will operate as denver kids, inc. The combined entity will represent nearly 100 years of collective experience with the goal of improving outcomes and opportunties for children and teens by supporting them to make it to and through high school, prepared for what comes next.

Holistic approach that operates within a clinical case management model. Clinical case management is a specialized professional field in which case managers go beyond simply coordinating needed services; they evaluate and address all aspects of their student's physical and social environments as well as collaborate with families, teachers, and other service providers. Dus has a long relationship with its students, potentially from middle school throughout high school and into college; most of our mentors have remained matched with the same student throughout high school.

Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Page 3, Part X

The organization has been granted tax-exempt status from federal and state income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code as a public foundation. As such, donors are entitled to a charitable deduction for their contributions to the organization. Accordingly, the accompanying financial statements do not include a provision for income taxes. The organization has evaluated its tax positions and concluded that the organization has taken no uncertain tax positions that require adjustment to or disclosure in the financial statements to comply with the provisions of the accounting guidance for uncertainty in income taxes within the income tax topic of the fasb accounting standards codification.

DUS BEGAN A PILOT COLLEGE PROGRAM IN 2012 TO CONTINUE SUPPORTING GRADUATES THROUGH THEIR FIRST TWO YEARS OF COLLEGE. DUS PROVIDES A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY FOR DISADVANTAGED YOUTH THAT IS UNMATCHED IN THE DENVER METRO AREA. THROUGH ITS CAPSTONE POST SECONDARY, MILESTONES HIGH SCHOOL AND STEPPING STONES MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAMS, DUS FOLLOWS A HOLISTIC APPROACH THAT OPERATES WITHIN A CLINICAL CASE MANAGEMENT MODEL.
