Mission and Program Overview

Mission

To transform lives through the christian ministry of foster care, adoption and orphan care.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Orphan ministries provides christian humanitarian aid for fatherless and orphaned children throughout the world.visionour vision is to place ten orphans into a family with loving house-parents who facilitate maximum holistic development for each child physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally/academically.missionour mission is to reflect god's heart through the life long journey of adoption and orphan care.our orphan care division, was launched in 2002.as of december 2010, hope's promise's primary orphan care services encompass a total of 6 children's homes in kenya (23 children, 2 homes), vietnam (11 children, 2 homes) and nepal (15 children, 2 homes), providing homes for a total of 49 orphans. In addition, hope's promise supports 92 children by providing educational scholarships in vietnam (90 children) and kenya (2 children).problem to overcomethere are an estimated 143 million orphans world-wide. (from unaids/ unicef/ usaid collaboration 'children on the brink 2004') these children are often relegated to institutional orphanages, struggle for survival on the streets, subsist in child-headed households, or are abused and neglected in the homes of single parents or extended relatives. Many orphans experience severe trauma at very young and vulnerable ages. Research indicates that the biological brain structure of a child who has experienced trauma is fundamentally different than that of a child who has not. As a baby experiences stressful circumstances, the body produces a biological chemical called cortisol. In ideal circumstances, a primary caregiver soothes the child when he or she is upset. If a baby does not experience this healthy attachment, cortisol is over-produced and re-shapes the very structure of the brain. However, brain imaging technology also reveals that a young child's brain has the potential to recover from the effects of early trauma if he or she experiences at least one secure, supportive attachment. Children who are neglected or placed in institutional orphanages where caregivers are inconsistent, change often, and at times are even abusive do not receive this fundamental pathway to wholeness(information on children's brain response to trauma taken from a research report cited in trauma, brain, and relationship: helping children heal, a dvd sponsored by santa barbara graduate institute center for clinical studies and research, published in 2004)solutionbased on this and similar research results, hope's promise (hp) is convinced that the strongest intervention in order to achieve maximum holistic development for children who have experienced the trauma of orphan-hood and/or abandonment is for them to be given the opportunity to form life-giving, healing attachments with primary caregivers. Hope's promise believes that every child needs and deserves to be raised in a family. Our model for orphan care, therefore, places approximately ten orphans into the care of loving, indigenous house parents who guide the children's physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental/academic growth. Within this nurturing environment, the children are given the opportunity to flourish in every aspect of life. Objectiveshp brings children into our homes with no other viable option for a healthy family life due to the death or rejection of one or both biological parents. Hp has established the following criteria for selection of the children we serve through our orphan homes: double orphans (both parents are deceased or missing) single orphans (one parent is deceased or missing) where the single parent is dying, has completely rejected the child, or is neglecting or abusing the child vulnerable children - children who are abused or neglected by their primary caregivers or in a dangerous home situation, such as living with guardians who abuse drugs or alcohol children whose parents or guardians are terminally illmethod to remove orphaned and vulnerable children from extreme poverty and hopelessness to raise ten orphans in

IRS990/Activity2/Description0ORPHAN MINISTRIES PROVIDES CHRISTIAN HUMANITARIAN AID FOR FATHERLESS AND ORPHANED CHILDREN THROUGHOUT THE WORLD.VISIONOUR VISION IS TO PLACE TEN ORPHANS INTO A FAMILY WITH LOVING HOUSE-PARENTS WHO FACILITATE MAXIMUM HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT FOR EACH CHILD PHYSICALLY, EMOTIONALLY, SPIRITUALLY, AND MENTALLY/ACADEMICALLY.MISSIONOUR MISSION IS TO REFLECT GOD'S HEART THROUGH THE LIFE LONG JOURNEY OF ADOPTION AND ORPHAN CARE.OUR ORPHAN CARE DIVISION, WAS LAUNCHED IN 2002.AS OF DECEMBER 2010, HOPE'S PROMISE'S PRIMARY ORPHAN CARE SERVICES ENCOMPASS A TOTAL OF 6 CHILDREN'S HOMES IN KENYA (23 CHILDREN, 2 HOMES), VIETNAM (11 CHILDREN, 2 HOMES) AND NEPAL (15 CHILDREN, 2 HOMES), PROVIDING HOMES FOR A TOTAL OF 49 ORPHANS.
