“Primary exempt purpose - caborca is a bilingual theatre ensemble under the auteurship of javier antonio gonzález. For over a decade, we have occupied a unique space in new york at the intersection of the latinx and experimental arts communities, building an expansive body of politically and aesthetically charged work that confronts entrenched colonial power dynamics. A laboratory for dramatic and performative forms, we create original and adapted works by engaging an ever-expanding range of tools such as multimedia, physical and dance theatre, nonlinearity, fluidity of character and language, and choral storytelling. Line 28 - in 2022, caborcas activities included the following. In january, we scheduled a showcase production of our play zoetrope, which we subsequently canceled due to the omicron variant of covid-19. We nonetheless paid a percentage of agreed upon fees to our collaborators. In august, we developed a new devised work called timing in collaboration with the company red de artes vivas in bogotá, colombia. Then we traveled to bogotá in september to present the work, which we live-streamed, and to offer a workshop to the students of javeriana university. In october, we hosted an event at the theatre of the university of puerto rico called un espacio seguro, a commemoration on the 20th anniversary of two clandestine performances seminal to caborcas creative trajectory. In november, we mounted a reading of fedra se quita, an original adaptation by javier antonio gonzález of the phaedra myth, at clemente soto vélez cultural and education center in manhattan, after a previous online reading. In december, we were in residence at the mercury store in brooklyn for a week to develop our next original work rubalee.”
