“The mission of the parotid patient project is dedicated to improving the total care of patients with parotid tumors. As advocates for the patient, we educate and empower them to make good decisions regarding their care, and we generate funds for research to identify the cuases of parotid tumors and to advance the diagnosis, management, and outcomes for parotid gland diseases.”

“Educate patients: our website includes a parotid education section, links to helpful resources, informational videos, educational podcast episodes, glossary of terms, lists of questions patients can ask their physicians, and access to an online patient forum. From january 1, 2023 until december 31, 2023, our website was visited approximately 49,530 times with visitors reviewing over 94,670 pages of information contained on our website. Patients have shared their stories and interacted with eachother on the patient forum.”

“Raise awareness and funds: we have raised funds online through our website, facebook fundraisers, through employer matching programs, and through participation in the amazon smile charitable program until it ended in may 2023. In addition, we have t-shirts and coffee mugs available for purchase and use them as awareness and fundraising tools. We utilize our organization facebook, twitter, and instagram accounts to raise awareness about this condition and to assist patients in finding our website where they can access all the informational resources that we offer.”

“Research: the research project that we funded at the mayo clinic, which evaluated different scenarios in the patient care system to determine which have the greatest impact on patient quality of life, enrolledover 350 patients and used their feedback to develop a parotidectomy quality of life questionnaire that can be utilized for future studies and by physicians across the world to improve patient care. Our organization has agreed to allow mayo clinic to use the remaining funds from this grant on the next phase of their research study.”
