“The mission of the parotid patient project is dedicated to improving the total care of patients with parotid tumors. As advocates for the patient, we educate and empower them to make good decisions regarding their care, and we generate funds for research to identify the causes of parotid tumors and to advance the diagnosis, management, and outcomes for parotid gland diseases.”

“Educate patients - our website includes a parotid education section, links to helpful resources, informational videos, educational podcast episodes, glossary of terms, lists of questions patients can ask their physicians, and access to an online patient forum. From january 1, 2024 until december 31, 2024, our website was visited approximately 46,401 times with visitors reviewing over 92,278 pages of information contained on our website. Patients have shared their stories and interacted with each other on the patient forum. We released additional informational podcasts and answered patient questions.”

“Raise awareness and funds - we have raised funds online through our website, facebook fundraisers, and employer matching programs. In addition, we have t-shirts, tote bags, and coffee mugs available for purchase and use them as awareness and fundraising tools. We utilize our organization's facebook, x, and instagram accounts to raise awareness about this condition and to assist patients in finding our website where they can access all the informational resources that we offer.”

“Research - the research project we funded at the mayo clinic completed its study and created a comprehensive survey that can be utilized by medical facilities worldwide to determine which factors have the greatest impact on patient quality of life. The manuscript of the study was submitted to the journal of american medical association-otolaryngology, head and neck issue for publication. The study was printed in the april 2025 issue. The survey was also loaded in the patient portal and is integrated into mayo clinic's parotidectomy surgical practice.”
