Mission and Program Overview

This past year we fulfilled this purpose by providing academic scholarships to 15 students in Guatemala providing a local elementary school in Tzuncoc Alta Verapaz Guatemala with resources to buy school materials and supplies providing a local middle school in Tzac Pec Alta Verapaz Guatemala with resources to create a computer lab and providing the families in Taquinco Alta Verapaz Guatemala with resources to buy food as an emergency response to covid-induced hardships.

Help Guatemalan children access education.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
The Community Support Fund helps families meet their basic needs during times of emergency. This year, that emergency was COVID-19. We provided 5 weeks of food to every family in 4 villages in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala for a total of 486 households. The goal is for families to have food security so hunger does not interfere with their children's ability to study and to alleviate the economic pressure that might cause some families to send their children to work instead of study.$23,789$24,014
Scholarship program that helps 14 Guatemalan children attend secondary school. It provides scholarships that cover expenses for tuition and schooling, and living expenses if they must live away from home to attend. The objective is to give gifted students the ability to continue studying when they do not otherwise have the resources to do so.$6,652$6,916
The Local Education Advancement Program helps improve the quality of education in rural indigenous schools in Guatemala. So far, we have started helping one school, the elementary school in the village of Tzuncoc in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala. This year we brought 994 notebooks, 32 boxes of pencils, 372 erasers, and 139 boxes of colored pencils to the school, among many more supplies. The goal is for rural indigenous children to have access to good quality education, tailored to their specific needs, in their local schools.$2,169$2,270
