“Scarsdale business alliance (sba) works with local businesses, community members, local government, property owners, real estate brokers and other community groups on a range of issues including parking regulations, special events and building department permits. During 2020 most sba members experienced shutdowns and/or significant loss of operations and revenue due to the covid pandemic, and many had to adapt their business models in response to the crisis. The scarsdale business alliance worked diligently and continuously throughout the shutdown and reopening phases to support its members. The sba distributed information and educational materials about relevant laws and regulations to help businesses follow new rules and take advantage of small business government initiatives. In addition, the sba offered free provisional memberships to local businesses in order to help support all businesses in its service area. The sba also teamed up with scarsdale village board members and staff to form the village reopening task force (vrtf), which was created to assist scarsdale business owners during the pandemic. The goal of the task force was and continues to be removing all unnecessary red tape and providing support to the merchant community in order to offset the impact of covid-19 and the associated restrictions on businesses to the extent possible. The task force has been instrumental in local law resolutions, allowing for extended sidewalk cafe permits and the outdoor display and sale of wares along storefronts. In addition, the task force helped execute and oversee the dine the 'dale tent in the village center as well as smaller outdoor dining tent areas in the freightway and beady lots off of garth road. The task force has been meeting weekly since the spring to discuss these initiatives as well as other opportunities for additional creative outdoor space usage. Planned community fundraising events were unable to be held because of the pandemic. A socially distant outdoor sidewalk sale took place during the last week of july. The sba received a 20k forgivable grant from westchester county in order to help offset the loss of revenue due to members being unable to pay their dues. The funds were used to help cover operational expenses and to fund creative outdoor usage of space to help the business community.”
