“Increasing access to financial education & individual financial coaching: midas continued to support its member-driven initiative, the masssaves coalition (formerly known as the massachusetts financial education collaborative), a public/private network of financial educators, providers, community organizations and key stakeholders that work with youth and adults to improve the quality and delivery of financial education across the state. These coalition members provide the backbone of our referral network on our state-of-the-art financial education website launched last year: www.masssaves.org. A key component of this effort is the masssaves financial confidence & coaching program operated by midas. The only program of its kind in the country, massachusetts residents are matched with our nationally certified, multilingual financial coaches to meet with them -- via phone and virtual platforms -- for free "one-on-one" coaching sessions, available weekdays, evenings and weekends. The program is grounded in a strengths-based philosophy, pairing the best of life coaching techniques with high level financial knowledge and resources. Our white paper, "what do we mean by financial coaching?," describes our research and philosophy. Financial education in massachusetts is now more available, integrated, individualized, and effective: 1235 visitors (80% new) to www.masssaves.org, 252 inquiries for financial coaching. Of the 154 residents provided individual financial coaching services: -85% have "set clear goals and action steps" toward financial success. -98% have "achieved their stated goal" and 19% have "achieved significant progress" on the more common issues of banking, credit, and savings. -90% have "achieved their goal" on at least one of their individual areas of focus: retirement, auto, mortgage, school debt, id theft.”
“-"borrowing for school: before & after" - understanding the higher education financing market. -"best practices in designing & delivering high-quality financial education workshops" - supporting trainers in using learner-centered approaches for better outcomes. Education and outreach activities to promote asset-building and retention policies: at the state level, midas has engaged in policy discussion on topics such as matched savings, consumer protection, financial education, and asset limit reform, leading and supporting coalition work. Midas continues to represent massachusetts in the national conversation on economic security, while in massachusetts the following bills/regulations were successful: -protection for low income residents against abusive debt collection, -expansion of a pilot program to integrate financial education in public schools, -increased state regulation of for-profit career schools.”
