Entrepreneurs: moving ideas to market - prima civitas foundation's moving ideas to market initiative, first supported by the c.s. Mott foundation in fall 2006, is part of a toolkit to diversify and revitalize mid michigan's economy. The initiative creates pipelines of entrepreneurs at the k-12 and postsecondary levels and helps support those who have already taken the entrepreneurial leap. Entrepreneurship is important in mid michigan: regionally, small business with just 1-99 employees account for 99% of business establishments and 69% of jobs.
Activity 3
Manufacturers: economic diversification - prima civitas foundation, on behalf of the mmit (mid-michigan innovation team) and its collaborators, have incorporated a diversification initiative operating in a 13 county region in mid-michigan including; bay, clinton, eaton, genesee, huron, ingham, lapeer, livingston, midland, saginaw, sanilac, shiawassee and tuscola. Prima civitas foundation is also expanding its diversification efforts outside of the 13 county regions, to manufacturers and economic developers who share a common goal of applying its manufacturing dna to growing industries such as alternative energy, medical devices, aerospace and homeland security and defense.

DESIGNED ON THE SUCCESS OF THE FLINT HEALTHCARE EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES (FHEO) PROGRAM, AND USING THE VAST NETWORK OF THE MID-MICHIGAN INNOVATION TEAM (MMIT), M-PATH WILL TRAIN 400 DISLOCATED WORKERS IN THE 13+ COUNTIES OF THE MID-MICHIGAN REGION FOR CAREERS IN THE HEALTHCARE SECTOR. BUILDING ON THE SUCCESS OF THE PROGRAM, A COMPREHENSIVE LEARNING HISTORY OF M-PATH WILL BE PUBLISHED BY THE END OF THE INITIATIVE TO USE AS A TOOL FOR REPLICATION OF THIS PROGRAM IN OTHER PARTS OF THE COUNTRY.
