Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The primary mission of cooperation cannon river's (dba cooperation northfield) is to create social and environmental justice through grassroots organizing and direct democracy in minnesota. We do this in three key ways: youth organizing through our program young people's action coalition, which supports highschool and middle school student activists in southern minnesota in making social change in their schools and communities. Worker cooperative support through training and technical assistance for local green worker cooperatives, particularly in the growing sector of compost collection and compost processing, as well as free range poultry production. Climate justice organizing through engaging minnesota climate activists in the movement for renewable energy and to stop the expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure. We educate and organize communities in opposition to fossil fuel infrastructure expansion, while promoting investment in renewable energy in minnesota.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 28

Proudly reflecting on the strides made in the year 2023, cooperation cannon river celebrates the following accoumplishments that highlight our commitments to building cooperative ownership, supporting youth activits, and advocating for environmental justice: cooperation cannon river secured an important grant for migizi, a cherished partner in the cultural preservation. This funding enabled migizi to deliver its cultural programming, breathing life into the indigenous heritage through workshops and events that celebrated tradition and land. Recognizing the financial struggles faced by college students, cooperation cannon river stepped up with a simple yet impactful solution: mutual aid. Through this program, the organization provided much-needed support, easing the burden on students, and fostering a sense of community solidarity. In tandem with its commitment to education, cooperation cannon river also focused on local programs centered around civic engagement and environmental awareness. From school workshops to community clean-up drives, the organization empowered individuals to take active roles in shaping their communities and protecting the environment they shared. Additionally, cooperation cannon river took strides to support the local solidarity economy, championing initiatives that prioritized community well-being over profit. Through collaborations with grassroots organizations and cooperatives, the organization helped cultivate a more inclusive and sustainable economic landscape where everyone could thrive. As the curtains closed on 2023, cooperation cannon river's accomplishments stand as a testament to the power of grassroot efforts and community-driven change. Our contributions to the minnesota community serve as a reminder that even the smallest acts of cooperation can make a significant difference in people's lives.
