“The primary mission of cooperation cannon river's (dba cooperation northfield) is to create social and environmental justice through grassroots organizing and direct democracy in minnesota. We do this in three key ways: youth organizing through our program young people's action coalition, which supports highschool and middle school student activists in southern minnesota in making social change in their schools and communities. Worker cooperative support through training and technical assistance for local green worker cooperatives, particularly in the growing sector of compost collection and compost processing, as well as free range poultry production. Climate justice organizing through engaging minnesota climate activists in the movement for renewable energy and to stop the expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure. We educate and organize communities in opposition to fossil fuel infrastructure expansion, while promoting investment in renewable energy in minnesota.”

“Over the past year, our organization has deepened its impact across minnesota communities by fostering economic democracy, grassroots leadership, and cultural expression. Through our workshops on cooperatives and community organizing, we have supported hundreds of participants in learning the foundational tools for building sustainable, resilient local communities. These sessions have guided the expansion of local cooperatives and strengthened emerging efforts with ongoing mentorship, guidance, and shared resources. We've convened dozens of residents in minneapolis and northfield to become leaders in addressing pressing issues including accessible housing, workers rights, and democratic decision-making. These gatherings have led to tangible outcomes, such as the launch of a tenant-led housing committee and a participatory budgeting process. Parallel to our organizing and cooperative work, we have continued to uplift community voices through art. Our public art workshops reached hundreds of participants. These spaces provided not just creative outlet, but healing, cultural connection, and shared visioning. Our work sits at the intersection of collective ownership, community education, and creative expression. By centering local knowledge and leadership, we continue to pursue our mission of social and environmental justice - one cooperative, one committee, and one brushstroke at a time.”
