Enhancing survival and quality of life for people living with gist through patient-powered research, education, empowerment and global advocacy efforts.

Information, education and support: the life raft group has a simple focus: to cure a form of cancer - gist (gastrointestinal stromal tumors) - and to help those living with it until then.the lrg provides support & education to patients & caregivers living with gist on an individual basis by providing one-on-one counseling sessions, local in-person meetings, a biennial meeting that gathers the patient, pharmacuetical & medical professional communities together in a supportive and educational setting. We also offer education to the gist community at large through our videos & webinars, websites, worldwide gist specialist database, a one-of-a-kind gist-specific clinical trials database, newsletters & other materials.
Activity 3
Advocacy: the life raft group has a simple focus: to cure a form of cancer - gist (gastrointestinal stromal tumors) - and to help those living with it until then.the lrg is a very active presence in effecting change in the gist community. Our advocacy role ranges from helping patients with treatment access issues on a one-on-one basis, creating regional groups in underserved areas in order to better inform & empower patients, championing patients' needs before government & policy makers and reporting on trends in dosage and survival to the world.

THE ORGANIZATION FOLLOWS ACCOUNTING STANDARDS THAT PROVIDE CLARIFICATION ON ACCOUNTING FOR UNCERTAINTY IN INCOME TAXES RECOGNIZED IN THE ORGANIZATION'S FINANCIAL STATEMENTS. THE GUIDANCE PRESCRIBES A RECOGNITION THRESHOLD AND MEASUREMENT ATTRIBUTE FOR THE FINANCIAL STATEMENT RECOGNITION AND MEASUREMENT OF A TAX POSITION TAKEN OR EXPECTED TO BE TAKEN IN A TAX RETURN, AND ALSO PROVIDES GUIDANCE ON DE-RECOGNITION, CLASSIFICATION, INTEREST AND PENALTIES, DISCLOSURE AND TRANSITION. THE ORGANIZATION'S POLICY IS TO RECOGNIZE INTEREST AND PENALTIES ON UNRECOGNIZED TAX BENEFITS IN INCOME TAX EXPENSE. THE TAX YEARS SUBJECT TO AUDIT BY FEDERAL AND STATE JURISDICTIONS ARE THE YEARS 2009 AND FORWARD. NO INTEREST AND PENALTIES WERE RECORDED DURING THE YEARS ENDED DECEMBER 31, 2012 AND 2011. AT DECEMBER 31, 2012 AND 2011, THERE ARE NO SIGNIFICANT INCOME TAX UNCERTAINTIES.
