Primary Exempt Purpose: Medici Road has shifted from activating as a think tank to executing as a Community Development Organization. Whereas most community development organizations provide financial services or other transactional activities as their direct service Medici Road will deliver research, policy, program and affordable housing development as our direct service. The research, program, and policy creation is not a change for the organization. However, developing affordable housing is new as well as naming racial equity as a core function of our work. Our bylaws and mission statement have been updated to account for this change. Primary Exempt Purpose (CONTINUED):Medici Road will utilize a community economic development model to positively impact the economic, environmental, and social dimensions of the metro Washington, DC area. Our role will be to coordinate, initiate, promote, develop and assist in the upbuilding of the community, including education, public health, housing, economic development, recreation, social justice, racial equity and other matters of civic interest. Our two newest activity areas will be workforce development and community economic development. Medici Roads workforce development will target programs and policies that promote the mastery of new job-related knowledge and skills and access to real employment opportunities. We will focus specifically on three items:Training residents in, or recently removed, how to be policy writersDesigning, and testing in collaboration with other partners, school to work transition programsHousing development programs that prepare people for jobs in things other than construction (development, architecture, business management, surveyor, finance, appraiser, etc)
