IRS990/Description0The Jackson County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) provides free, round-the-clock care to girls, women, boys and men throughout the county who are victims of sexual assault. In 2012, SART facilitated 76 advocate hospital responses and 78 exams. SART coordinates a multi-agency response team of police detectives, victim advocates from Community Works and SART's own, specially trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs), who provide immediate crisis intervention, medical screening and expert evidence collection. SART also works to raise awareness of sexual assault and sexual assault services in our community. In 2012, SART conducted several dozen community presentations. Other outreach events included presentations to local high school and middle school students as part of their schools' health curriculum, and presentations for parents of middle and high school students. SART is also engaged in a community awareness program in Ashland, working with the mayor, city council and members of the chamber of commerce and school board to create trainings. SART also continued to train current and additional nurses in the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program.
