“This years focus is "we are family" to enhance the relationships / interactions of students, staff, parents, and the greater school community, with an emphasis on kindness and acceptance of all, regardless of race, gender, background, or disability. This focus is being taught, reinforced, and presented across the curriculum through all grades and specialty classes, with the students social and emotional wellness in mind. As an extension of this topic, the ims art students are learning about women artists throughout art history, and we would love the opportunity to connect these women and other minorities to a school-wide kindness and acceptance quilt, as a means to guide, unify our young studetns, and to prepare them for the future.”
“The indian mills memorial school (imms) media center seeks to engage students by teaching them hands-on 21st centruy skills that will foster the development of their problem-solving abilities and knowledge of technology, preparing students to be successful in their classes and their careers. As the media specialist at imms, and in line with this vision, we are seeking grant funding to finance a robotics competition club in which students will work with a 1-2 partner(s) to build and code a robot in preparation for a competition in which the robots battle each other using the robot's built- in features such as the ability to shoot lasers at the opposing robot.”
“The wilson reading program is the primary curriculum implemented in the pull-out resource setting. Although our students are in the 3rd and 4th grades, their independent and instrucionnal reading levels are well below, making it difficult to access texts that are age-appropriate and engaging, while still being decodable. We are looking to purchase geodes, a collection of accessible, knowledge-building books for our emerging and developing readers. These texts were created in collaboration with wilson language training and directly align to the decoding and high frequency word skills that we are teaching in our classrooms. The struggles that pair with a diagnosis of dyslexia or other specific learning disability can easily create reluctant readers, especially in the older grades. We are eager to expose our students to texts that are colorful, relevant, and intended to allow their own personal successes. In addition to these books being aligned with the wilson reading system scope and sequence, this collection will provide students with books that are of high interest, and because they come in sets, they will allow teachers to use them for guided reading instruction, as well as to differentiate their independent book selection by having students read books that match the skills they are currently learning.”
