“Mission: rock paper scissors collective is a volunteer-run organization that fosters creativity and collaboration in order to strengthen local communities and encourage sustainable practices and alternative models. We promote the sharing of ideas, skills, and resources through the celebration of art, craft, education, and performance. Psa1 - youth programming to promote youth involvement in all of our programming, rpsc offers youth internships to high school aged teenagers. There are two types of internship programs: one, a partnership with metwest high school, and the other, under the guidance of an rpsc member working in the intern's area of interest. All programs are volunteer run and would love your supportrpsc partners with metwest high school to offer high school students student initiated, project-driven internships. Internships run throughout the school year, two days a week. Projects have included: entrepreneurial airbrushing business, fashion design, and teaching teen fashion classes. We also reserve one month of gallery programming a year to feature our interns art work, giving students the opportunity to have their work shown in a gallery space that reaches over 1,000 people every month. Rpsc also offers youth the opportunity to intern in one of our program areas: small business management and entrepreneurship in arts, fashion, gallery programming, arts education, and arts lab. They are offered on a rolling basis and those interested should email community at rpscollective dot org to learn more about current availability. Psa 2 - zine rpsc has one of the largest home-made/hand made zine collections on the west coast, we accept donations from anyone that has a zine or self- published reading material to store in our zine library. We also host zine readings, zine fairs psa 3 - retail shop our retail pop-up shop connects the general public with hand made (mostly upcycled) apparel, home and personal accessories. There is a 60/40 split on everything we sell, ensuring that artists are able to make a sustainable profit from their diy wares. Store shifts rpsc is currently operating in pop-up shop until we move into our new space.”
“Psa - other programs 1- volunteers being a volunteer run organization, our volunteer committee ensures that we are not only open to the public with daily store/gallery shifts, but it also acts as a touch point for anyone that wants to get involved with rpsc 2 - classes similar structure to the retail pop-up shop, the classes committee offers opportunities to artists and folks with skills to share their passion and knowledge. Rpsc hosts free -reduced price classes, taught by community members on everything from home made soap making, skate boarding for girls, to origami folding and screen printing. This programming is meant to be accessible to all community members and an opportunity for in-depth quality arts/dyi education. In 2016 we held regular sewing classes, tactile collage workshops that were deaf and deaf-blind accessible, and other diy workshops. 3 - events being an organization fin our community. We have hosted elaborate marker dance parties, story times, musical performances by local and regional musicians, and are looking for more ways to interact with the public in creative and engaging ways. 4 - gallery/exhibitions rpsc hosts pop-up exhibitions year round, we accept exhibition proposals from emerging and new artists collectives, community partners/organizations, and anyone in between. The one boundary is that we do not host solo exhibitions because we would aim to offer opportunities for community members to become more engaged in a collective and collaborative processes.”
