Activity 2

Fire Suppression: The Wildfire Suppression program provides wildland fire fighting job training to youth between the ages of 18 and 24. Prospective participants must pass a physical examination and aptitude test before they can be considered for this rigorous program. They must also meet eligibility requirements set by the north Monterey County Fire District. Once enrolled, students are trained in fire behavior and suppression tactics. Supplementing their training at Rancho Cielo is field experience with local fire crews. They learn about fire line construction,progressive hose lays, chainsaw use and safety, prescribed fire operations and more, as they help to reduce wildland fuels in the community.

Activity 3

Culinary Academy: This program offers youth an opportunity to gain classroom training, work experience and transferrable skills that help them become employable in the culinary and hospitality industry. Culinary instruction is integrated with academic instruction in a seamless manner in order to provide students with the opportunity to meet the California standard requirements to obtain their high school diploma while enrolled in the academy.
