“Stem centers of academic excellence are educational institutions that host the harris foundation programs that will enhance the academic success of youth in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through innovative stem-based activities conducted in a variety of locations. The center offers project-based inquiry learning experiences designed to engage the learners in the knowledge, understanding, and application of stem concepts and principals. The stem centers of academic excellence program includes the following: 1) girls stem academy - a program designed to engage girls in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (stem) education during the summer, where 39 elementary students and 7 volunteers from the alief independent school district participated. 2) stem after school program - a program designed to provide educational opportunities in secondary schools after school in science, technolog, engineering, and mathematics (stem). 3 uteach volunteers and 38 middle school students participated in the program.”
“1) dare to dream program is a nine-month, elementary school based program that boosts self-esteem in children by providing access to positive role models. Dare to dream uses interactive math and science curriculums to get students thinking about their futures and exploring the exciting possiblities. The interactive curriculum is comprised of three (3) modules which focus on self-improvement, community service, and goal setting/career planning. Ten (10) elementary schools from two (2) houston area independent school districts participated in the dare to dream program, representing over 250 elementary students, 10 volunteer probation officers, 11 fbi special agents, and 10 community in schools volunteers. 2) the dream tour is a motivational series that encourages middle school students to both find and achieve their potential by encouraging them to go to college and study science, technology, engineering, and mathematics as a way to fulfill their dreams. The dream tour encourages communities to demand access to strong science and mathematics programs in their schools. 3) innovative medical missions is an initiative of the harris foundation that promotes the innovative use of medical technologies in support of philanthropic healthcare missions worldwide.”
