Activity 2

Young Mothers Residential Program (YMRP), established in 1996, provides the following services and support for women and their children for two years: A fully furnished row house; a weekly workshop series with topics on budget/finance, parenting, computer skills, job readiness, healthy relationships, among others; a program mentor; counseling, individual and group; and a structure whereby participants learn to establish healthy boundaries for the raising of their children and community networks to sustain them upon exiting the program. YMRP residents have gone on to get graduate degrees, become lawyers, teachers, nurses, and therapists, among other professions.

Activity 3

The After School and Summer Education Programs, established in 1995, provides program participants with quality arts-based classes taught by professional visual and performing artists, writers, and musicians in a supportive and positive learning environment, incorporating structure, discipline, and a passion for the arts. The mission of PRH's education programs is to use the creative process to encourage children to develop thinking and problem solving skills. The teaching methods emphasize confidence, self awareness, self empowerment, listening, creativity, communication, and self esteem. This is a year-round program that has benefited over 1,200 young people (K-12) in the Third Ward community since its inception.
