Additional Explanations

Form 990, Page 1, Box C

Name change in 2023: aids foundation houston changed its name to allies in hope in 2023 to recognize that aids is no longer an inevitable outcome of living with hiv. "aids" has a history as a term associated with a stigma that prevents people from seeking care for hiv. We want to eliminate all possible barriers to care and indicate with our name that all are welcome in our clinics and programs.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

Aih is exempt from federal income tax under 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and is classified as a public charity under 509(a)(1) and 170(b)(l)(a)(vi). Therefore, no provision for federal income tax has been made in these financial statements. Aih utilizes the accounting requirements associated with uncertainty in income taxes using the provisions of financial accounting standards board (fasb) asc 740, income taxes. Using that guidance, tax positions initially need to be recognized in the financial statements when it is more likely than not the positions will be sustained upon examination by the tax authorities. It also provides guidance for derecognition, classification, interest and penalties, accounting in interim periods, disclosure and transition. As of december 31, 2023 and 2022, aih has no uncertain tax provisions that qualify for recognition or disclosure in the financial statements.
