Pt III, Line 31

Ppw supports a wide variety of programs in accordance with our mission statement. In fall 2014 we held our 2nd annual (newly revamped in 2013) zebulon writing contest. We had over 100 entries in six categories: middle grade/young adult, mystery/suspense/thriller, romance/women's fiction, science fiction/fantasy, horror/urban fantasy/paranormal, and mainstream/literary/historical. First place winners in each category were given a chance to come to the 2015 pikes peak writers conference (ppwc) for free or receive a cash prize of $100.00. Second and third place winners received cash prizes, as well. As the sponsoring entity responsible for the pikes peak writers conference, we organized and held the 22nd annual ppwc on april 24th -april 27th. The theme of the conference was "write here, write nowmake it happen." we had 328 attendees and four keynote speakers, with an array of faculty teaching a variety of classes for all levels of writers. As part of our programming, we aim to present monthly programs. This includes our write brains on the third tuesday of every month. Write brains are done either in person or online and consist of a special writing topic in a classroom environment with a guest speaker. Some of these write brains were done online in a classroom setting for wider access for our members. In addition, we host writer's night on the fourth monday of each month to encourage mentorship, discussion, and networking of writers, and a monthly open critique night every third wednesday of the month to give writers valuable feedback on their work. We have also started to host a few special events each year. In february of 2014 we hosted "write your heart out" at the colorado springs marriot with nearly 160 attendees and 6 guest speakers. In june of 2014 we hosted an intensive half-day workshop on synopses at the space foundation, with 18 attendees. Finally, we participated in october arts month, an arts initiative set forward by copper to bring the arts to the forefront in the front range area. As part of our participation, we put on a series of free events, including an open mic night for attendees to share their work and get positive feedback and two improv events, one for adults and one for teens, in which they learned a new tool to help their writing. We had around 20 attendees at each of these extra events. We communicate to writers via facebook and twitter accounts in addition to our blog which can be accessed via our website. On our website, writers can find all past issues of our newsletter as well as information on current and upcoming events of interest to the writing community. We also offer an email-based loop for discussion and dissemination of information.half-day workshop on synopses at the space foundation, with 18 attendees.
