FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

Step denver was founded with a purpose of providing men, living on the streets of denver, co, with an opportunity to take responsibility for their lives. Step denver provides shelter, employment, dependency assistance and an environment that supports these men as they return to productive, fulfilling lives.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Community in a peer recovery based environment that is a safe, sober, and accountable living environment offering more freedom and privacy while still being connected to the requirements and support of the step denver program. Each house holds 5 men who are required to be employed full time, attend addiction recovery related meetings, meet with the recovery support manager and maintain the upkeep of the home, doing chores and other house related duties. 248 men were served in our programs during the current year. Step denver, through the implementation and use of its salesforce database, has created robust data tracking and reporting systems to gauge the efficacy of the program processes and outcomes. This has become instrumental in improving the services that we are providing our clients as well as increasing the successful outcomes after the residents discharge the program. It has become equally important as a tool to provide evidence to our funders, referral partners, and agencies who are seeking evidence- based information on addiction recovery and how our program performs and the impact that it has on individuals and the community at large. This was an immense undertaking - to both construct the database framework and to then create a process to collect the pertinent data that would be relevant in communicating effectively with the addiction recovery industry, funders and local and national communities who are looking for a solution to the disease of addiction.

The organization is a not-for-profit organization exempt from income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and is classified by the internal revenue service as other than a provate foundation. Management has determined that the organization does not have any uncertain tax positions and associated unrecognized assets or liabilities that materially impact the financial statements or related disclosures. Because the tax matters are subject to some degree of uncertainty, there can be no assurance that the organization's tax returns will not be challenged by the taxing authorities and that the organization will not be subject to additional tax, penalties, and interest as a result of such challenges.

IRS990/Desc0STEP DENVER HAS A THREE PHASE PROGRAM FOCUSED ON SOBRIETY, WORK AND ACCOUNTABILITY. THE STEPS FOR SUCCESS IS DESIGNED TO GUIDE THE RESIDENTS OF STEP DENVER THROUGH A RECOVERY BASED PROGRAM WITH GOALS AND MILESTONES INTENDED TO HELP THEM TO REESTABLISH STABILITY IN THE VARIOUS AREAS OF THEIR LIVES WITH THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF HAVING THE MEN TRANSITION INTO AN INDEPENDENT, SELF-SUFFICIENT, SAFE AND SOBER LIVING ENVIRONMENT WHERE THEY CAN BECOME PRODUCTIVE, CONTRIBUTING MEMBERS OF THEIR COMMUNITY. STEP DENVER OPENED AND OCCUPIED TWO SOBER LIVING HOMES AS THE NEXT PHASE OF THE STEPS FOR SUCCESS PROGRAM IN WHICH RESIDENTS OF STEP DENVER HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO BEGIN THEIR TRANSITION BACK INTO THE COMMUNITY IN A PEER RECOVERY BASED ENVIRONMENT THAT IS A SAFE, SOBER, AND ACCOUNTABLE LIVING ENVIRONMENT OFFERING MORE FREEDOM AND PRIVACY WHILE STILL BEING CONNECTED TO THE REQUIREMENTS AND SUPPORT OF THE STEP DENVER PROGRAM.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0IN NOVEMBER OF 2017 WE UNDERTOOK THE TASK OF REVISING OUR VEHICLE DONATION PROGRAM. AFTER AN EXHAUSTIVE COST ANALYSIS, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT BY BYPASSING THE REPAIR AND DETAIL PROCESS AND BRINGING DONATED VEHICLES DIRECTLY TO AUCTION, THE ORGANIZATION WOULD DRASTICALLY REDUCE OVERHEAD AND PAYROLL EXPENSES AND GENERATE A HIGHER NET PROFIT, WHICH IS THE DIRECT CONTRIBUTION BACK TO THE STEP DENVER ADDICTION RECOVERY PROGRAM. IN PREVIOUS YEARS, THE VEHICLE DONATION PROGRAM PROVIDED A CONTRIBUTION MARGIN OF 19% TO THE STEP PROGRAM. SINCE THE INCEPTION OF THE CHANGES IN OUR VEHICLE DONATION PROCESS, THAT CONTRIBUTION MARGIN HAS RISEN TO 44%. THIS WILL DIRECTLY IMPACT THE SERVICES WE PROVIDE TO OUR MEN AS WELL AS TO REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF FUNDING WE NEED TO REQUEST FROM THE COMMUNITY.
