Mission

Step Denver is a men's residential recovery community that gives men with nowhere else to turn the opportunity to rebuild their lives through Sobriety, Work, Accountability, and Community. The ultimate goal of the organization is to have its residents transition to safe, sober, independent living situations where they may become productive, contributing members of their communities.

Step 13 was founded with a purpose of providing men, living on the streets of denver, co, with an opportunity to take responsibility for their lives. Step 13 provides shelter, employment, dependency assistance and an environment that supports these men as they return to productive, fulfilling lives.

Bylaws amended to establish an advisory board of between 35-40 members to promote fundraising, offer expertise (legal, sobriety support, etc.) and keep past board members active with step 13. Bylaws amended to remove title "board emeritus" and instead palce former board members on the advisory board. Bylaws amended to require 75 percent of board (change from 100 percent) to respond in writing for approval of board action outside of regular board meetings. Amended document destruction policy to keep permanent record of car donations as required by colorado law.

Step 13 was founded with a purpose of providing men, living on the streets of denver, co, with an opportunity to take responsibility for their lives. Step 13 provides shelter, employment, dependency assistance and an environment that supports these men as they return to productive, fulfilling lives.

Career support - ninety percent of 70-76 men in the program are learning job search skills, computer skills, application assistance, creating a winning resume, dress for success seminars and mock interviews. Of these men, more than 50 percent will secure new employment through the skills they have learned, and other resources provided. Life skills - ninety percent of 70-76 men in the program are participating in the life skills program, which offers help with budgeting and finance, good nutrition, transportation, personal wellness, assistance with legal issues, help with past-due taxes, enrolling in health care, and other issues.

The organization is a not-for-profit organization exempt from income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and is classified by the internal revenue service as other than a private foundation. Management has determined that the organization does not have any uncertain tax positions and associated unrecognized assets or liabilities that materially impact the financial statements or related disclosures. Because the tax matters are subject to some degree of uncertainty, there can be no assurance that the organization's tax returns will not be challenged by the taxing authorities and that the organization will not be subject to additional tax, penalties, and interest as a result of such challenges. Tax years that remain open to examination by taxing authorities are for the years ended december 31, 2011 to 2013 (the 2014 return has not yet been filed).
