Governance Explanations

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 4

In june, 2015, the board voted to switch to a july-june fiscal year (effective 6/30/15) and to switch to the accrual method of accounting (effective 7/1/15). The fiscal year was changed as we receive significant donations in december and the switch will better allow us to manage our budget, rather than estimating year-end donations. We now receive them mid-fiscal year (december), allowing us to better manage our budget. Also, we changed the subcommittee responsibility descriptions.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 11B

Return is provided to board members and reviewed by the treasurer before it is filed.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 12C

Any time a conflict arises, it is brought to the attention of the full board and they vote on it. The board member with the conflict recuses him or herself from the room.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 15A

The executive director's compensation is reviewed and approved by the board of directors annually as part of the budget process. Comparable salary information is obtained from mountain states employment council.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 15B

No other officers or directors are compensated.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0PURCHASED A NEW AUTO DONATION WAREHOUSE: STEP 13 SOLD ITS FORMER, SMALLER AUTO DONATION WAREHOUSE TO PURCHASE A LARGER WAREHOUSE. AS AN ORGANIZATION THAT STRIVES TO DEVELOP ITS CLIENTS INTO SELF-SUFFICIENT, PRODUCTIVE MEMBERS OF THEIR COMMUNITIES, WE AS AN ORGANIZATION TRY TO MODEL THAT BEHAVIOR. WE CURRENTLY GENERATE 25% OF OUR TOP LINE FUNDING THROUGH OUR CAR DONATION PROGRAM. WE ARE LOOKING TO CONTINUE TO GROW THE AUTO DONATION PROGRAM WITH THE GOAL OF FURTHER BECOMING MORE SELF-SUFFICIENT AS AN ORGANIZATION. TO DO SUCH, WE REQUIRED A LARGER SPACE TO ACCOMMODATE THE INCREASE IN CAR DONATION VOLUME.
